After giving it some thought and the six shows that I have been to which are

2007 NZFBB Auckland Champs,NABBA South island champs Christchurch

2010 NZFBB Auckland Champs

2011 NABBA South island Champs Dunedin

2012 NABBA-WFF Pan Pacific Auckland,NABBA South island champs

Because of my size having a lean built and not having much muscle on me I will do athletic class haven't thought what show that I will compete in.The other reason being which are after talking to a guy at my gym who compete in the men's 40 plus class saying to me that I have got a good height and built.Question for you guys when I do compete in the new year which show should I do the Pan Pacific show in Auckland or the NABBA South island show in Dunedin?

Would prob make sense to do the Dunedin show given you are down that way but why not do both if the timing is right and you've gone to all that effort to get in to peak condition.

Btw, got any pics of where you are at right now mate?

No I havent got any present pics of me just now also I should get one of co workers to check my body fat to see where it is at just now.I have started looking on google for cutting eating plains for people who are on tight budget like myself for examaple.I am sure if I have told you guys a few people at my gym have mention to me that I have got good hamstrings also good quads as well since I do lots of biking plus I bike up some step hills when biking home from work. That's what one of my mum's co workers suggest that I should do the Dunedin show first before doing a show in Auckland.Question for guys who have competed and competed this year what do guys do to past the time back stage before coming on stage?

That's great news Gymrat. You have built a decent frame over the past few years and once you strip back the fat in sure you'll look amazing on stage.

If I was you I would target the Dunedin show as your debut. Your first show is hard enough without adding the hassle if travelling to it too.

You aren't obliged to wait backstage until you go in stage mate. You can go into the crowd and watch the show until its time to go on. I've competed at a few shows where it dragged on and on and being backstage waiting for 3-4 hours isn't that fun. Although you do get to meet and chat with all the other competitors, and make new friends so that's cool.

I urge you to get in touch with a proper personal trainer or nutritionist to work with you on your diet and training. Ones you find online can be pretty hit and miss, you want one specifically designed for you.

I am having second thoughts about competing in the new year after reading a article on Go figure about the cost of competing which would be expensive for me to do just now since I work part and I be best to wait until I am working more hours and in the mean I want be inevoled in the sport some how like helping out a show since I have a huge passion for the sport.

Don't be put off by the cost dude It's really not that bad. The Dunedin show will be a good starting point for you. Just focus on getting really lean, get help from a nutritionist and make sure you come on here for advice on tanning and all those sorts of things. Give yourself a good 15 weeks to diet down and you will be sweet.

Its also not as expensive for guys as girls e.g you dont need hair/make up/shoes/nails/etc.

If you have built as much muscle as you are happy to present then its mainly a good clean diet in a moderate calorie defecit then:

On a budget:

You need: Your food(which can be done on a budget), protein, multi's, Trunks, clippers, razors, hair removal cream and 1 pot of Dream Tan plus your entry fee and registration.

There is so much information online, you dont NEED a nutritionalist, they certainly help, but if budget is tight you would just need to pick a diet plan which gives you enough time to get stage ready, if you are soft this could be 16-20 weeks, if you are hard 12-16 weeks.

There are alot of good BBUILders around who can be willing to offer some advice, I would pick 1 to have go over your progress every 2-3 weeks.

You may even have 1 person on this site who can do that for you, just send them pics under good lighting every 2-3 weeks as well as your calorie plan.

I wouldnt consider giving up mate, just get dieting far enough out and think positive the whole way through.

I didn't know that Matrix I thought the cost was the same for us guys after I read the article about the cost of competing on Go figure.Tomorrow night I am going to have a talk to Suzie Patrick who is the NABBA Rep for Otago and Southland Tarsh who is one the trainers at Les Mills Dunedin.I will let you guys know after I have talked to them.Suzie or Tarsh they might have some ideas for me on to overcome the cost of competing since I am on tight budget.

Exactly Tom,

Some people drop every cent into the sport and look great, some drop every cent into it and look average.

Others have no money but are dedicated, eat basic afoordable food and look great.

Disclipline, dedication and hard work are key.

These days alot of people are working with trainers and nutritionalists etc and this can help but despite having the monetary resources to pay for this, they dont get you up at 5.ooam for cardio or through a hard workout on bugger all calories, you do!

It can be done on a small budget with willpower.
