NABBA Universe - Steve Orton NZ Rep

Recommended Posts

Steve leaves Christchurch Wednesday morning 31 Oct to be the only athlete from New Zealand to represent NABBA/WFF NZ at the prestigious NABBA Universe at Southport, England this Saturday 3 November 2012. He will be competing in arguably the hardest class - Open Men Class 2. At the young age of 22yrs he will be one of the youngest competitors to stand up at that level from any country.

I have had the pleasure of working with Steve this year as part of his support crew. It has been a massive journey & one that he has been dedicated to for many months of hard training, dieting & sacrifice of a normal life. Never once have I heard him complain. He has been totally focused in this task & a huge task it has been. But I'm happy to be able to report that he is in fantastic shape physically & mentally to take on the toughest amateurs in the world on Saturday. He has no illusions of how hard it will be up against the best but I know he will do us proud & is a winner in the very fact that he has made it this far.

We will post up progress & results as they come in on Sunday morning NZ time. Please show your support in any way you feel inclined.

Would Steve still classify as a junior if he wanted too MuscleNZ? Nabba is under 23???

Phenomenal bodybuilder. The best amateur bb in NZ and Aus at the moment in my opinion and I'd say he'd give all the Pro's in NZ and Aus a good run too

I would put money on Steve being the best bodybuilder ever to come out of NZ in due course. If he does go the way of IFBB pro eventually, a top 10 Olympia wouldn't be out of the question.

Mike Smith is heading to Germany to compete as well, he won Mr NZ Athletic couple of weeks ago in Auckland. To both guys all the best I'm sure you will do yourself's proud:clap:

Steve is heading to England bro. Mike competes in a Different Federation (NAC). Good luck to Mike Smith and Jess Coate as well!

Nice words SG. No NABBA cutoff for Junior is under 21 in any given year starting in the January. Its WFF that Junior goes to 23. He was going to compete in the WFF Worlds in Austria as a Junior which is 1 week later on 10 Nov but decided to just concentrate on doing his best at the Big One in Southport which, I think, was a very good decission.

A huge good luck Steve. In my opinion the best "Mr New Zealand" I have ever seen. All the best in Southport, its a hell of a long way over there. Not easy to do, it can really knocks the shit out of ya and you have to be really tuned in to what the body is doing the whole way. Personally I think they're in for one hell of a shock when Steve walks on stage though.

All the very best and would love to be over there with you Steve.

Go hard Phil Kuklinski.

Mike didn't win Mr NZ Athletic, we won the Athletic Tall class not overalls.

Missed out on the overalls.

And as Soundgood said he competes in NABBA-NAC not WFF

Regrettably Steve did not place in top 6 in Class 2 in a hugely competative lineup of quality athletes that would be up there at Mr 'O' level accordingly. Was won by a Czech guy. More details & pics as they come to hand. Congrats though Steve, you came out in the best shape of your life & have time on your side to get it on in the next couple of years.

BBers in NZ need to understand that the level of competition at the NABBA Universe is extremely high as any one that has been there from here will testify.

Definately massively hard class as alot of really good pros fit into that height group. Invaluable international experience that will no doubt light a fire in Steve to push even harder.

Probably some guys well into their 30's and 40's up there as well so Steve definately has time on his side and has a huge amount of muscle on a young frame, looking forward to seeing some of the pics.

Cheers Muscle NZ,
