Very, very impressive benching. Challenge anybody to hold 318 above their chest, let alone do anything with it...

No safety's either! Always makes me cringe after seeing the vid of the dude getting his chest crushed

Can you name anyone in nz that could be capable of that or has already benched 200+ raw under 100kgs bw? Leighton Best maybe? He benched 240 in gear but if hes getting a lot of carryover he may not be able to do even 200+ raw. And hes the best bencher in nz atm.

Not quite 200, but there are a few down our ways who are close... Leti Avei wouldn't be far off, he is/was around 190 raw I think at 98-99kg. Zane Wairama from Powerhouse also isn't too far off, has hit a paused 180 in the gym @ 102ish.

Pretty sure Bayasa could/has hit 200 raw, but his bodyweight is closer to 120 than 100 (117 on the weekend I think?), and as Danny mentioned, Damon hit 210 raw on the weekend @ 119kg.

Yep, forgot about Leti and Zane - mean raw pressers. Also, Brett Gibbs hit 185 raw at 83 o_0, Dale would be able to hit 200 at 100 and Dr Squat would be right up there I reckon.

So maybe 5-7 competitive PLers out there who could potentially bench 200 at 100ish, but there's a whole heap of under cover guys out there who don't want to compete that are absolute benching beasts.

edit - 1 more post till 4000 Drizzt  you should get some free stuff for that \:D/

True, I forgot about Dale and Doc Squat, definitely up there with the best

Yeah, Brett is a freaky, freaky lifter. I've no doubt if he had a bit more weight on him (85kg at the moment) he could hit 200 raw. Seeing a guy his weight repping 160 raw is a sight to behold

Truuue, 4000. Ummm, first 4000 pic I could come across:

as far as a u100 hitting 200kg its not even close, there would be a ton of people out there capable of that

Not many in nz that actually do powerlifting as a sport other than the list above, IPf any way due to strict doping rules, but I'm sure there is plenty out there, at the last capo comp we had a stack of young guys raw in the 170-190 range few more years they will be humming?....i hear snoopys making a charge after his fast 170 at 89

vids of sub 100 kg bencher with a pause benching 200 kg please. All due respect naming elite benchers as being close is not the same as theres heaps of people doing it.I reckon its rare.

A proper pause raw bench at u93 would win u a medal at the world classics.Would be close to a medal at u105s.

^True.

Actually, there wouldn't be many, in fact I don't think any at the moment, in NZ competitive powerlifting that could pause bench 200 raw weighing sub 100kg. Leti would be the closet I've heard so far - 190kg @ 99kg raw.

I'd put my money on Derek and Wayne Pomana being able to do it back in their prime - maybe someone could confirm? Nate or OB?

You are right, but I did qualify my post by saying "there are quite a few that are close" :)

As Danny says, I think Leti would be the closest (that I know of) with 190 @ 99kg in a novice comp - and I've no doubt he could achieve it if he wanted. I haven't seen him lift for about a year though (and he was equipped on that occasion), so I've no idea where he's at now...

Well, Phedder and Red machine claimed that there were heaps of guys out there that could bench 200 at under 100 but so far, nobody is able to confirm anyone capable of that. Not close to... Plenty of guys at 140+ bodyweight "close to" benching 300kgs too, I bet.

I think you have missed the point here bro. Hooked your tee shot and ended up in the rough.

I didn't mean just in New Zealand, I meant world wide, drug tested or not. I'm not saying it's common for someone under 100 to bench 200 raw either, but it's a hell of a lot more common than anyone benching 300+ raw, regardless of bodyweight.

At the IPF classic cup (So drug tested and raw)

There was a 192.5kg at 82kg.

205kg at 92kg

4 between 200-210kg in the 105kg class (one 205 done at 99kg)

And the heaviest bench in the SHWs was 227.5kg at 137kg bodyweight. Not even close to 300, yet quite a few near or just over the 200kg mark around 100kg bodyweight.

The 100% raw federation world records (they have a lot of age categories) has:

2 guys under 82.5kg benching 200+

3 guys under 90kg benching 200+

6 guys under 100kg benching 200+

And as for their heaviest categories

Under 140kg - 265kg best lift

Over 140kg - 287.5kg best lift. (The guy also weighs 190kg+)

If you look at their top 10 benchers list -

8 at U90kg benching 200+ the other 2 are 197&199

All 10 at U100kg benching 200+

Satisfied now?
