Sure that guy is faarkin' strong and all, but I really can't get interested in watching these top benchers whose rom only goes to there fuckin' massive stomachs lol.

He's actually got a pretty big ROM for such a good bencher. On Nov 3rd he'll be taking the world record for heaviest raw bench press ever, which is currently held by scott mendelson with the most questionable (non existant) pause I've ever seen pass in competition. What would you find more impressive, a raw 200kg done by a 100kg guy (plenty out there that can manage that) or a raw 300kg done at 140-145kgish (As far as I know, only 2 ever done...)

Both are damn impressive, but surely the heaviest weights anyone has ever handled raw should come out on top.

I don't really mind the reduced ROM from the gut but it does irk me when it doesn't seem like they fully lock out.

Which video are you referring to tho?

A lot of that training is working on the power and explosiveness ... there's no need for a lock out and it'd just detract from the intent of the training which is to get a bigger 1RM bench!

Not the ones in this thread, a few of the record equipped benches on Youtube don't even lock out properly. To be fair, they're massive weights like 900 or 1000lbs but if they didn't lock out, they should be given reds. The judges just seem to give whites to please the crowd

lol how many people in NZ can bench 200 raw to comp standard at under 100 kg in NZ drug free?

I find the 300 raw more impressive because its 300 kg despite it probably aint drug free, however 200 kgs at 100 kgs is at a guess pretty damn rare imo.could be wrong here.Remember thats coming from me who hasnt seen a bigger bench than 3 plates.

the 200kg done at 100kg, couldnt give two shits about some fat c*nt pressing the bar 2 inches of his stoumach.

Agree with this. They have some faarkin' maaaasive stomachs lol. Such one trick ponies

To be 100kg and bench 200kg isn't that amazing... If its what you train for then it's realistically easy to achieve

Some ppl have a massive back arch this decreases the range of motion too.. That's the whole point of a competition to make it as easy as u can for urself without breaking the rules. That's like saying someone's squat or deadlift isn't as good as another persons because their feet as further apart so there is a smaller distance for the bar to travel.

300kg is an amazingly huge weight to lift off the rack and control. This guy in the video is a fucking strong c*nt regardless.

Gee a lot of hate. 300 kg raw bench press is up there. It's not a bad weight to squat let alone bench.

There's plenty of much weaker benchs out there with much shorter ROMs, some of the japanese benchs are truly ridiculous. As Tom said, 300kg (actually 318kg in the vid) is an insane weight to control in your hands, especially without the aid of a bench shirt for support. The fact that there's only 2 people in the world who have managed it, makes it pretty damn impressive to me.

One trick ponies? I don't know for sure, but have heard that he has a pretty impressive squat and deadlift as well. He's just focusing on taking the bench record currently, might do full meets in the future. What's wrong with using someones leverages and body type to their advantage? You've got to use what you're dealt. Plenty of massive deadlifters out there with ridiculously long arms who lockout just above their knees, if they're lifting big weights its still impressive. Strong is strong.

faaark you have gotta be kidding if you not impressed, raw hitting 318kg like an opener, if its all because of his huge gut/small rom (which its not any way) then stick on 3 board on ya and see how you go.....fair enough if its in a 3ply open back chain shirt etc

as far as a u100 hitting 200kg its not even close, there would be a ton of people out there capable of that

Can you name anyone in nz that could be capable of that or has already benched 200+ raw under 100kgs bw? Leighton Best maybe? He benched 240 in gear but if hes getting a lot of carryover he may not be able to do even 200+ raw. And hes the best bencher in nz atm.

Not sure about who would be able to in the NZ powerlifting community - a guy named Stan Day had a big bench (about 230 at 100kg), but it was a shirted bench. Damon Tafatu did a raw 210 in the 120kg class over the weekend. Other than that I don't think there's many that could.

But there's a whole heap of non-competitive powerlifters who could do 200kg at 100kg-105kg. I know a guy who could raw bench 230 weighing 110 o_0 he never wanted to compete though - it was a shame.

BTW, that 318 bench was impressive as hell!!!

Very, very impressive benching. Challenge anybody to hold 318 above their chest, let alone do anything with it...

No safety's either! Always makes me cringe after seeing the vid of the dude getting his chest crushed

Not quite 200, but there are a few down our ways who are close... Leti Avei wouldn't be far off, he is/was around 190 raw I think at 98-99kg. Zane Wairama from Powerhouse also isn't too far off, has hit a paused 180 in the gym @ 102ish.

Pretty sure Bayasa could/has hit 200 raw, but his bodyweight is closer to 120 than 100 (117 on the weekend I think?), and as Danny mentioned, Damon hit 210 raw on the weekend @ 119kg.
