NABBA North Harbour

Hi guys, heres a quick summary from the NABBA North Harbour yesterday.

Not a complete overview as I was competing but just what I saw:

80 odd competitors which is a great turn out, including pretty large numbers in most catagories.

SHAPE: was a large (7-8) class with every competitor looking great and very competitive. I think this is a good class for ladies who enjoy training but either havent developed or dont wish to develop the extra muscle to do figure or physique.

Teenage Men: 3 guys, the winner was pretty dam impressive with a good balance between upper/lower and great size for someone so young.

The guy in second place had a good upper body and posed well too.

Junior Men: Special mention to Allan Laumatia who won this with IMO a wicked physique, Real classical lines and great proportions not to mention classic posing. I hope he stays in the game as he has a great future in bodybuilding and is a real good guy to boot, very humble. He has had a great year and is a great representation for the sport. The 2nd placed guy looked good to and worked the crowd well during his free posing, he looked a bit disappoined to come second as he had alot of support in the crowd but from my perspective wasnt quite as balanced as Allan.

40 plus Physique: Big Nigel Randell took this out with a barn door wide physique and good conditioning along wit a crowd favourite routine.2nd place was a big guy who wasnt quite as conditioned (sorry didnt get this name) but had good size and third was a really lean guy who had some freaky/odd (depending on your point of view, varicose veins all through his legs, half the crowd seemed to like this and half were IMO a bit put off by it, either way he got the placing above a 4th place guy who looked pretty good to me (good balance/colour and symmetry).

Open Figure: Was a large (6 or 7 lady) class of girls that were all in super shape and looking great. Janine Harwood won this, but I didnt see the other placings, I think the lady who won the Nov figure from the nationals was there as was Kirstine N who looked great, good class of ladies who all looked as though they had put in some hard yards to look that good on stage.

Open Athletic Short: Andy M looking thick as took this out over Gavin M. People may recoginize Gavin as a NABBA official who has a great physique for a guy in his late 40's/50? puts alot of young guys to shame with his shape and conditioning.

Open Athletc tall: Following up from his very close 2nd in Nov Athletic at the Nationals, big (6 foot 3) Morne Barnard won this with Paul and myself in 2nd and third.

I am not sure if Morne will stay in Athletic or eventually move up into Physique but despite being a pretty intimidating frame, he's a down to earth guy and good bloke to boot. I wish him all the best in the open ranks, hes got the ability to get real lean and/or full so he will do well.

Overall Physique: Mateo... Mateo looked to be slightly flu ridden/sick/tired but still took this out. What can I say, this guy is amazing. When you see the guy in a hoody, he could just be any normally fit looking guy, but when he gets pumped up, his physique just comes alive and muscle seems to jump off his frame. Still looked pretty conditioned as well after the nationals (veins through his quads and inner thigh cold/pre pump up).

Thats how I saw it, sorry for the lack of detail as its hard to take it all in when you are getting ready. Some good people backstage both Competitor and helpers alike, met some real characters, sorry for the lack of names.

A few pluses: Good to met Bobby K who was there prepping his clients, all of which looked great..dear I say perhaps a return to the stage is on the cards for Bobby in 2013?.......Either way Bobbys doing a great job as a prep coach.

One show format seemed to worked well with the 80 person number, all done by around 6pm ish.

Thanks to all the NABBA officials/helpers and spectators for coming out,was a great afternoon.

For me, another season over and nationals qualified for which I am really happy about as I kind of stuffed up badly at the Nationals so to knuckle down during the week and improve is satisfying.

Tom: didnt get to see you mate but best of luck next year!
