MMA in AUCKLAND

Where is the best place to train. Dave wants to know. Prefers central to South.

He has a background in Muay Thai, Kempo, CQC, C&R etc, and is looking at fighter training to start the ripped factor.

He doesn't need it to stay safe, but to get holistic fitness and that fighter body. He has done door work in the past and security, so is 'aware'.

The grappling learned is a bonus.

He has narrowed it down to two, based on distance, and what is on offer.

Just posting on his behalf, to get a feel of what any of you peeps may have experienced, and recommend.

Cheers.

Ground Control in East Tamaki is a great set-up, and more Central/South. I think there are 4 or 5 MMA classes a week, along with a ton of BJJ classes and fundamental classes which are combined MMA/BJJ gigs. Saturday is open mat and no-gi rolling.

More classes equals more potential for what I need. SF only have one weeknight session, and one weekend session. Weekends are out (if I value my marriage  ).

I PM'd southernsamurai btw.

I will have a look. Cheers Wookie.

And that guy just stood there, like he never saw the big guy load his haymaker...

i think SF sorta recommend you do the muay thai and bjj classes as well as the mma. and theyre all during the week.

iv done a few of the beginner kickbox classes there back in the day and it was alright, the muay thai class looks mean!

Yeah yeah, I realise I need to do the BJJ classes too, and MT. I actually like the SF approach as it is no-gi.

I have emailed Auckland MMA and Ground Control. Waiting to hear back from SF via SS. ETK is 5 mins drive from my place too. Another option.

Spoilt for choice. SF, GC, and ETK are the top 3.

Life is good.

I am not getting any younger, so I need to get into it now. Cheers to all posters in this thread. Food for thought.

Dunno about OP but olvier MMA seems like a good place

Yeah it's all good, I went there ages ago for about a year, forgot everything i learnt now lol. went it used to be under his house, Now they have a new training hall it's right by my house in Glen Eden. Steve is a good teacher and knows his stuff as far as grappling goes. It's gotten big now I heard he has a lot of members. Go check it out he does a free trial.

I recommend Oliver mma hard out, real fun and Steves a pretty gc teacher real patient etc.

Bjj is a fun sport how once you get the basic idea you can roll full intensity and not get too hurt or injured unlike stand up sparring
