CAPO NZ National Deadlift Comp - International Qualifier

Hey guys.

This is extremely tempting for both me and my son. It would be our very first foray into a powerlifting comp. *gulp*

Just a couple of questions if I may. I turn 40 two days after the competition. Does this put me in the Masters 1 category or still in the Open Mens?

Is a soft suit required to lift? Neither me or my son have one so we'd have to do some shopping around to get some from somewhere if need be.

Cheers.

Hey Pabs

Unless you are 40 on the day you are still classed as Mens Open (sub master for any records)

2 choices mate

1. Compete as Novice - $25 entry, shorts, tee (logos are fine) and long socks with your footware...Rock up on the day, weigh and lift but cant set records. Can also weigh the day before if you want.

2. Register with CAPO (only $85 for a calender year - date to date) and again weigh on the day or the day before, lift in shorts, tee and long socks with your footware (again any logos are fine), soft suit if you want and get a cheaper entry to all CAPO meets and be eligible to set records. ($20 for this meet)

With CAPO, juniors (under 23) and Masters (over 40) do not need to qualify for Nationals either provided you have done a 3 lift in the past 12 months and there will be plenty of chances for this.

Our comps are fun, friendly and you'll be made to feel right at home and helped out on the day if you need it. Give it whirl mate. :D

Sausage sizzle and hui normally follows each of our events too 8)

Thanks for the information, Steak. Much appreciated.

I talked to my son last night and he's keen to have a go so it looks like we'll both be there (all going well). We'll likely just have a go at the Novice lift this time around but the more I see and hear of CAPO, the more it seems to be a place where we might fit in.

Shorts huh? Good lord, it's been years since my drumsticks have seen the light of day. I hope everyone there has a good pair of sunglasses to protect from the glare.

Time to up our game with our deadlift.

^^ fuuuuuuuark awsome

this just from wayne

Qualifying requirements have not been set in stone yet, but I'd imagine a lifter would need to do a bench or deadlift or 3 lift comp before March, break a record, and/or score a gloss formula that would put you near the top 10 -15 lifters Overall in CAPO Australia, in either the bench or deadlift.

NOTE

this is a Raw Only event

UPDATE ...

CAPO is pleased to announce from the GPA AGM , that the upcoming CAPO National Deadlift comp on December 8th will be the first GPA sanctioned single deadlift meet in the world , where GPA World records will be set . Australia/NZ will set the World record standard for the rest of the world to follow.

This is an bonus incentive for CAPO members lifting in the upcoming postal Deadlift comp to not only set /break National Australian and New Zealand records , but also GPA world records in single deadlift ( keeping in mind that GPA is a RAW Federation only ).

Once all results have been sent in from each participating State and collated together , we will then be able to officially announce the World record holders , along with National rankings.

2014 GPA World powerlifting and benchpress championships will be held in Sydney NSW Australia.

Something to work towards in 2014. This event is going to be massive.
