Crossfit

Would like to say hi to everyone, long time no see. Been very busy finishing of my nursing degree which I passed and now finishing the first half of my post graduate cert as well as working full time.

About 2 months ago I wanted to train with a trainer that was located at my gym as it was starting to cost me just too much with my old trainer who moved gyms. So i hooked into this great trainer and gave him a chance. Well he introduced me to Crossfit and I was very skeptical at first as everything I've seen looked very impracticable. Well within the last 8 weeks I have lost inches and lost body fat now down to 11.5%, I'm now working on fixing my diet and plan on 10% within the next few weeks.

I just love Crossfit, starting with a quick warm up and stretchers and then strength training. I have managed to break all my personal bests within a very short time frame (Deadlift 140kgs, will try 150 tomorrow morning, Back squat 110kgs, this morning, bench 70kgs still working on this.) then its into a work out for the day-normally timed. Think Cardio with a twist. My chronic back pain is almost gone and everyday that I go to the gym (5 days a week) I have something different each time and I don't know what I'm doing until that morning. Love it, if your not tried it before I would suggest you try it for a week and see how you feel.  :pfft:

Hey Andre

Congratulations first-off on passing the quals, that's wicked

I'll admit to trying CrossFit, and yep, it can be fun, the atmosphere, the variety, the mastering the unknown, all great dimensions to a workout.

Ditching the back-pain is also a bonus - glad to hear it's working for you on so many dimensions.

I do i on my own in our gym, cause my PT is a crossfit trainer. But just loved it, I did dead-lifts and dips as my strength today and then a great 6 min workout... I struggled to walk to the bus stop, my legs just wanted to drop off. Love it, love it.... So when do we get our own thread????? :pfft:

Can't be far off now, there's a few other CrossFitters on here, some keeping it off the radar

I was going to add the Crossfit forum as part of our site makeover but that's still a few months away (there's a lot of planning and testing needed there). So in the meantime, how about I create a Crossfit forum as a subforum of this one? It's not perfect, but it gives you Crossfitters your own space. And when we introduce the new-look site, I promise you'll have your own top-level forum.

I bought a good pair of jandals for $10 once.

Ludus Magnus, in Glenside cres, Auckland (to left of Symonds street offramp) is better value for money, for the similar tuition.

I enjoyed it better. More variation. Sledgehammers, ropes etc

I am a believer in this type of training.

I pay $40 a week and that includes a pt for an hour a week and a different WOD tailored to me, and he is always on the other end of the phone if I need help for anything. BTW I also pay a gym membership. My old PT was $70 a fortnight and I got a plan every 3 months. SO for me personally it is only costing an extra $5 per week. :pfft:

Crossfit is just anything fitness.

At one cf games they had a triathlon.

It's just about what the gym owner or head instructor believes are the most beneficial exercises and training methods as to what ppl do at certain cf gyms.

Every cf gym is slightly different, it's not all the same.

I had to admit I was curious about crossfit but the crazy ass prices through me off. Once I was able to train again I thought I'd see if I could get a free trial. Kia kaha in town gave me a full week free and I have been back every single day.

Regardless of the price the atmosphere and coaches are worth it. My core strength and back strength are much greater then they were post back injury and I'm having fun even though some of the wod's smash you.

Not trying to sound cliche but it has changed my life. Great people, great setup, great environment. Hopefully I will be competing in December.

Crossfit has brought back functional movements to the masses.

It's good to have a whole lot more people doing the oly lifts and power lifts these days.

RE: Price - It depends on the individual and if you think it's value for money - like a newbie to crossfit (actually someone new to training in general) will see the price as value for money, as they are getting individualised coaching, learning new stuff, being exposed to a new environment, new people, new ways of thinking for only $50-$70 a week (cheap when you look at it like that).

I crossfitted for about 3-months back in 2009, after a holiday stint at Crossfit Oahu (Hawaii), but stopped as my oly lifting took over in prep for the 2010 Comm Games. But I would gladly go back to Crossfit after I retire from competitive lifting :)

Since doing the traditional gym plans from a PT who used to give me plans for me and my back issues, and now with the crossfit. I will always go crossfit. I no longer have issues with my back and I'm able to bend and move better at work and I'm even able to hold those awkward positions without much discomfort and regards to the price, its an extra $5 a week for me to what I was paying. \:D/

It's good and I like it but its not that good Andre lol u can stop going on now.

Dnt get me wrong I'm a believer of crossfit but dnt get brainwashed that its the only way, u gotta keep an open mind mate.

P.s that pic icecream posted, he is a crossfit games competitor, he doesn't look like that because of crossfit.

Everyone iv seen who started off in crossfit without any other base be it bodybuilding, powerlifting, gymnastics etc etc... Look average. In saying that its not about looks, I just dnt agree when those sorta pictures are posted on forums and social media sites claiming to be a crossfit physique. It's a physique built from something else which now does cf.
