Gearing up to go Hard!

Hi all!

Just figured I would rock an introductory post.

At present I'm not close to being a bodybuilder or an athlete, just an average guy that needs to shapen up. I have worked on and off in the past, but nothing serious, just enough to stay in reasonable shape. I gave up smoking in May last year and gained close to 20kg as a result. My fault, I knew better but didn't plan for it. This year I've been working out and managed to lose approx 10kg by mildly switching up my diet, keeping a regular workout plan (nothing too amazing, just free weights etc) and using ripped freak.....ugh...

I have just come back from a reasonably dormant month and a half due to family demands messing up my timetable.

Now I'm planning to do it all as properly as I am able. I joined here because I am already making use of the forums resources and seeing as I can only do this at home, I will need peeps to bounce ideas off every now & then.

I am spending this week researching and getting all my supps, working out a realistic diet that I can stick to and finalizing my workout plan.

Where I am at the moment....

35yo male, 6'3" 110kg

My goals,

Overall:

I want to be an athlete again... in fact, I aim to ultimately be in the best shape of my life.

Immediate:

I aim to lose 15kg over the next 3 months while gaining muscle, strength and endurance. (optimum Bmi is around 94kg)

Longterm:

I want to join the local Avondale Strike Force and be able to train competently.

Exercise Types:

I'm still working out the specifics, but definitely 3 days Tabata protocol alternated with weight training targeting muscle groups by the looks. Maybe add the P-90x Ab Ripper, Kempo or Plyo as an extra evening workout 3 times a week also.. but that is something I will have to build up to. (P90x didn't work for me btw, not my thing)

Supps:

Nothing too crazy. Just starting 5g daily dose of Creapure Creatine Monohydrate, non stimulant fat burners and Jack3D micro as a pre workout. Also have a basic whey protein powder also.

Anyway, I hope to stick around and make this happen. I'm not so new to this that I dont realize people get excited, go hard for the first two weeks then give up... I've been there. This is it.

Cheers guys. Sorry for the long intro... figured I'd lay it all out. Feel free to give me advice, spot any errors etc.

Good intro!

And good plan, too. Stick with that and I'm sure you'll get to your long-term goals.

The only thing I would say is don't become reliant on fat burners and pre-workout supps. At the very least cycle them on and off. Fat burners may help lose that last bit of stubborn fat once you're already lean, but until then they're probably not cost effective for the amount of fat loss you'll get from them.

Welcome - and good luck!

I'm with Pseu - til you're well into single figure %bf, you'd be better off sinking what you'd spend on fat-burner supps on more real food, and hitting the workouts hard.

Creatine, yep; pre-workout supp, yep; possibly the only other thing I'd suggest is a good multi-vitamin.

15kg in 12-15 weeks is a bit of an ask, but it's do-able, with attention to diet; nutrition timing around workouts; and a combination like you've identified of weights and hi-intensity workouts like Tabata.

Hi, Thanks for that,

single figure bf% !!! I'll be shelving those puppies for a while haha I think you guys are right, thanks for speaking up on the topic as they are around $80 a pop and from what I understand... lack most of the real goodies these days anyway.

I'm currently scouring the site to get a clear vision of how I'm going to attack my diet. I currently hit centrum everyday for my multi vit, let me know if there is and a 3-4 fish oil caps, in addition, I get into my green tea, 3-4 cups a day.

Yeah, you're right, 15 is a huge ask, but I want the odds against me, one audacious goal type thing. know I can do 10.

I appreciate the feedback guys. This forum is pretty deep with info in all departments... and kiwi humour... I love being a kiwi
