Nationals 2012 - who got who?!

NZIFBB National 29 September 2012, NABBA-WFF Nationals 6 October 2012, NABBA NAC Nationals 14 October 2012.

Which athletes are likely to be contesting the mens bodybuilding titles?

For the NZIFBB I'm picking there will be Joe Ulberg, Supry Sos, Harry Bickers, Mark Stewart, Philly Nuku, Garth van der Merwe, Nathan O'Hearn (?), Khalid Slaimankhel, Matt Clarke, Hamish Coulter (?)

For NABBA-WFF I'm picking there will be Steve Orton, Grant Pieterse (?), Kristrian Bray, Hamish Coulter, Darren Farrow, Philly Nuku (?), Phil Kuklinski

For NABBA-NAC I struggled to find many names (did a quick look on Go Figure from previous comps but seem very light in Mens Physique?). I guess there will be Kenneth Clayton & Rota Elliot. Maybe the big youngster from Palmy Dillonn Edmonds (?)

I'm sure I've missed heaps of names that others know are competing or may be competing. Sticking with Open mens both NZIFBB & NABBA-WFF are looking strong, NAC less so this year to date. Any others in the mix to be considered?

Is Nato competing NZIFBB this year?

Nah bro. Too much fishing :pfft:

I knew I should have done a NABBA regional this year, easiest Mr NZ title ever (most Hollow too I guess) :shifty: . One other name to throw in the NABBA nac ring is Sifa (not sure last name). Shredded Polynesian guy who took out the Waikato show earlier this year.

I definately plan on doing the NZIFBB nationals too Nate, depending on how I go at the Waikato qualifier the week before.

Just a heads up too. If anyone is planning on going to the NABBA WFF nationals they better get there tickets ASAP. Even though it's going to be held at SKY city which is a big venue, the tickets are being snapped up real quick so it's likely going to sell out within the next week or 2.

Maybe buy extra and if you can't find someone to take, put them on trademe. They will be worth more than one direction tickets :pfft:

Sifa Mafi > used to train at Club Physical New Lynn. Big Chest and Arms with a waist like an ant. Great Aesthetics.

... saw Nato at the fit ex last month and he was looking pretty solid - thick muscle!!!

There is some genetically gifted shapes in all those shows, there are some mass monsters too. What it's gonna come down to is who will have the conditioning down because in those line ups, not one name jumps out at me and says "There's no one close to him". I do believe that Harry is arguably the front runner given his overall physique (mass, shape, symmetry) and muscle maturity but like I said, it comes down to conditioning. Guys like Hamish have a chance to steal the show. In my opinion, he is an under dogg but still a very real threat. Who has been putting in the hardest yards will be crowned victor.

Although it could look like Steve could be Mr. NZ again in the WFF

I don't think I personally have much of a shot at Nationals.. lots of really good bbs who have already proven themselves and some really massive up and comers. I hear Khalid is around 120?

But from pics I have seen and that's all I can go by, I think Nato will be the guy or possibly Joe Ulberg if he matches Nato on condition which by all accounts he is going to.

That said, a shredded SG is a handful for anyone and a shredded me is too LOL

I would back Nato everytime.

He's proven he can get into awesome condition many times already.

Joe?...am sure he tried to nail his conditioning last year and missed it at the Nationals. So he'll try again this year...but still, everyone "tries" to. At least Nato has proven many times he can.

Buying tickets this week to a few shows.

Never been to a WFF show but looking forward to seeing the line-up of amazing physiques in all 3 federations tbh. Motivating as hell

Hey Guys

I won't be on stage this year. Way to busy with PlaceMakers Big Angry Fish. Hope to have time to come watch though.

My money is on Khalid (if he comes ripped?). I have been on his case to turn up ripped to bits every chance I've had and I think after beating him last year 20kgs lighter then he was, Khalid understands that condition is king!!!!

I HAVE TO SAY............. To all you guys out there getting ready to compete that are worried about how much you weigh, what your measurements are, how strong you are, what % fat you are, you have got it all wrong!!!!!!!!!! Who cares, it does not matter! There is only one thing that matters come comp day............. Thats how you look! Condition is KING! you want to be king then be the guy in the best condition at the show, and you will be \:D/

Have fun

Nato

Soundsgood, not a dig at you mate but re the NABBA NAC open physique being an easy Mr NZ this year, one thing to remember is that guys like Mateo, Stan and Kristian have already qualified (at 2011 Nth Harbour) which is the first qualifier for the 2012 season. Kristian is really sharp this season and Stan and Mateo have the shape and presentation to beat far heavier guys if the come in lean.

No one knows if one or more of these guys will turn up but you never know. Mateo guest posed recently at around 10% and it wouldnt be a stretch for him to sharpen.

Rule of thumb is that usually the top contenders know and keep an eye on whos qualified and who hasnt and there is also one more qualifier this weekend.

Seeing the small numbers in Open Physique may have given anyone of these guys (and even Mark Stewart who is based in Auckland and qualified) the motivation to go for the overall, who knows?

It certainly is a bit of an open book at the moment. I heard second hand that Moe is talking to a young guy Rahid Ibrahim about stepping up at NZIFBB Nats - (think thats his surname) - he used to train and compete as a junior but took some time off to get his rotators sorted. Amazing physique any way thick and very aesthetic.

Bodybuilding is leaping ahead now with 3 federations that seem content to co-operate with athletes and allow them to cross-fed represent. Certainly more guys on stage and looking great

Mate you just contradicted yourself. You are admitting that it is an easier year to win overall NAC than others that have come before.

I was chatting to Mateo a couple of weeks back and he said he wasn't competing this year at all (he was easily the stand out at the Waikato show , even though he was just guest posing lol).

Kristian is part of team Evo run by NABBA WFF execs so I highly doubt you'll see him at a NAC comp.

Stan is still the man sure. But maybe not quite as big of an obstacle as Mark Reid, Nato, Darryl Tomuli etc (all prev NABBA overall winners).

Those 3 guys are friggen big units agreed, some strong genes in the Tomuli family! Saw Mark up close at the Nationals last year and he has real thickness through his back - freaky.

NATO certainly breaks the mould on the fishing shows as you dont see too many guys on those shows reeling in kingies with 20+ inch arms! If he's struggling to land thoses things you can just picture the damage that would do to your average weekend angler!

Whatever the line ups, best of luck to everyone who has qualified for their respective Nationals! always a great time of the year to be competing!

No IDW up for NABBA?

 not even close.

I'm going for Khalid for NZIFBB! What Nato said about him learning that conditioning is king... that's going to push him to the next level. Caught up with him a couple of times in the last month or so... he's looking big, hopefully he can dial it all in for the show!
