Deep Tissue Massage

I went for a massage on the weekend.... there was no happy ending! :pfft:

But in all seriousness I thought it was time to do something about some of the knotty, lumpy bits of steak I call muscle when a friend commented that they could actually see muscles that were tight & almost distorted (particularly in errectors, trap/rhomboid area, triceps, biceps).

I went to Mark Foote, who has a good reputation and has been operating out of Peak Fitness in Havelock North for over a decade. When I took off my shirt he laughed, then laughed some more when he checked my ROM through pec/delt/bicep areas. I should've run away about then!!!

Mark's son is an aspiring BBer as well, so he said he should have him down to watch and see what happens when you neglect stretching and looking after your muscles / tendons! :)

Long story short it was about 8/10 pain rating on average (& my threshold is relatively high, tattooing is a breeze compared to this!). Reminded me of that video of Dennis Wolf getting worked over by the ART practitioner, I almost had to tap out a few times around pecs/ribs region & around lats.

I felt amazingly light afterwards and ROM in that area was up a fair bit. Heading back for round 2 next Saturday morning. :?

Recommended.

Others experiences with deep tissue work?

Yip deep tissue works for me when I need it. Body feels amazing afterwards.

Body responds well. traps, erectors and quads usually the main target.

But sometimes it takes an hour just for the back if you have left it awhile lol.

Would say quads and calfs are the most painfull, quads can be unbearable to be massaged.

Defiantly think it helps performance and makes you feel dam fresh

Highly recommend.

Yep I get deep tissue work done once a month. My range of motion has incrased heaps and my squat and bench have dramatically improved. I am recovering faster and finely I'm growing. Another bonus is that haven't had a migraine for five months now. It is never pleasant, I never look forward to it, but certainly worth the investment.

Hands down best thing you can do.

I think Physios are a waste of time - I have had 10x better recovery from massage than physio.

I have real issues with my knees due to muscle tightness. The guy I use is very good, has a sports background too which helps. I've referred a heap of guys to him like soundsgood & MNZ etc.

Just don't get it done to close to comp as will cause water retention.

I've had 'Deep Tissue' massage in the past and they have been hit and miss. It depends on how hard the massause is prepared to go and how knowledgable they are as to how effective it can be.

By far and away the best I've ever had done was by your guy in Chch Genetic Freek. Man I wish he was up here, I'd see him every week! In just one session he fixed a long standing tightness is my left delt that meant I couldn't do side tricep pose properly.

Find someone good and Go as often as you can afford would be my advise!

Massage loosens the muscle but if your not stretching then it'll just go back to being tight again.

Physios aren't a waste of time they fix a lot of problems in ppl, and if the rehab exercises or whatever has been prescribed is being done it will get better. Masseuses just fix problems that you could have been prevented by preventative maintenance I.e stretching

I know your type... Go to gym, no warm up, lift heavy, leave, Thinks has injury and goes to physio, gets told to stretch, doesn't stretch, bags physios. Lol.

Have used it on and off with mixed results also. I have found that for me weekly sessions tend to loosen me up a bit too much in that my old injuries tend to play up a bit more. 1 full body session (2hours) seems to work better and allows scar tissue to harden a bit around rotators and lower back.

Was paying $80 an hour at Flexaclinic northshore - girls name was Victoria (rather nice to look at) but also a competitive cyclist from memory - so functional knowledge of muscular dev.

Seems like a reasonable price but from the look of the website Victoria isn't there now?

Can anyone comment on Rewind in Ponsonby? May hit that early next week as the location will be handy

Truth.

and I prefer the Thai full body massages. non-sex (though those places were always good too).

Those women have strong hands. They ask you how hard you want it. They can do it hardcore too. The Royal Oak one is good. No frills setting, but quality hands.

I also prefer Thai full massage, but they tend to spend alot of time down below ( ) doing legs.

In Thailand it cost $14 for an hour in Bangkok and cheaper when you went to smaller places like Changmai. Makes the trip worth itself in Gold.

^ dude half them don't even know what they are doing in Thailand... Just cause they're Thai everyone assumes they know how to massage. Most of the ones I went to were shit! Not that I complained as your right is dirt cheap..

Thai women in thailand either massage, suck dick or rip ppl off at laundry shops to make a living. most are hardly qualified masseuses.

I never said the girls in Thailand where good, I said there cheap. Which is always good, get 5 massages for the price of one in NZ.

And I agree, half of them looked like prison convicts, infact I remember reading somewhere that the educational program in female Thai prisons is to learn to massage. Says alot.

Why laundry shops?..
