calf muscle advice please

When you think about it, you use your calves a fair bit when you're just walking around day to day. I've always trained them rather heavy (rep range of 6-8), stretching them in between sets then burning them out till failure on the last set (4-5 sets usually). See if that works for you :)

Have you tried hitting the calves from different angles for example on the leg press I will do calve raises with feet straight and then superset with feet pointed inward really burns them out, and hurts like a bit#h!!

Also tempo and squeezing the muscle is important as mentioned by others above, wouldn't train more than twice a week even if it is a small muscle group.

I don't understand this foot inside / outside business , aren't you essentially moving at the hip joint?

This is probably the most helpful thing said so far Vracula.

Other than just to train calves as hard as you would any other muscle.

Important questions to Son of Zeus would be the following:

Are you skinny? whats your height and weight.

Are you built everywhere and just have skinny calves? or you are just plain skinny?

Can you honestly say that you train calves as hard and heavy as your arms?

If not, do you think they should grow as fast with less effort or energy put into them?

How much body weight have you put on in the last few months?

Can you full squat? or do you have lack of mobility in your ankle or hip.

Can you give examples of workouts you do and the kind of diet you follow?

sorry i didn't mean to be rude I usually like understanding the mechanics myself, I suspect it has more to do the way your ankles in that position.I have tried it myself and when your overall development is shit to begin with i think it's more important concentrating on just overloading the muscle.

But honestly I have yet to see a 13 inch or 14 calf grow to even 17 inches or above.

If your calves are only 13-14 inches maybe genetic... how tall are you might have extremely long calves?!

My brother has 19 inch calves and hardly touches them. Mine are the same as my biceps (17 inches) as I like to think I over load them alot.

I will try get some pics of my brothers calves he's only 17 too.

I have been consistent with my calf training over say the last 2 years, atleast 3 times a week,My calves have got more defined ,but sill remain small overall,i suspect it takes way longer than other muscles.

about 6 feet ,was a skinny little f*ck in high school/uni, even played basket ball for school and uni .I definitely have skinny calves genetically , My dad has decent calves and my bro and sis ..well they have always been chunky so that explains that.

yeah I just keep punishing them regardless, still searching for the golden routine.Read all possible theories as well, funny how complicated it is,My take is like arnies ,shit loads of hours of calf exercises more than any other muscle.
