Yeah I work them directly with heavy deadlifts, front squats and uni-lateral work like single arm presses or rows.

Works a treat and is most efficient way to train them with the added bonus of actually working out and not wasting time on isolation exercises.

As far as injury prevention its more important to teach the whole core to work with the body as it moves naturally rather than doing rep after rep of side bends etc etc :roll:
