Bro Science Question.

Alright been thinking about this for about the last week.

Say for example I weighed 80kg and wanted to gain weight to 90kg and be shredded (ie 10% bodyfat).

If I ate the calories needed to be at 90kg weight and carried on training etc would I eventually get to that weight.

Im assuming be an initial weight gain in fat, as muscles developed bodyfat would drop as calorie intake to maintain muscle mass would match calories eaten.

Discuss :)

It doesn't really work like that.

To put on muscle weight you eat more calories than your body needs, sort your training out with good form, heavy compound movements with smart progression.

Record your calories and macros, if after 1-2wks your not gaining weight eat more. If your losing weight eat a lot more!

Depending on genetics, training and more importantly how well you consistently eat enough food you will begin gaining weight.

10kg is a lot of muscle and will take a while, why worry about getting to a low BF% at the same time as gaining all this weight.

Gain weight, eat smart and your gains will mostly be muscle. If you want to decrease bodyfat after a while do a mini cut and/or add in a little cardio.

Good luck

You will gain weight, mostly water and fat, some muscle. How much of each depends on your genetics and training so there is no definiative answer.

If you are natty and do not have genetics of the gods the only way to gain muscle is the slow hard way, huge calorie surpluses=become fatass for MOST of us.

Unless you weigh 55kg dripping wet and cant gain weight then eat everything in sight who cares

as much as i'd love to give you a broscience answer (gotta show off my phd someday right), this is a very easy question unworthy of the broscienctific calculations...... difference in maint calories between an 80kg dude and a 90kg dude is actually very small ;

figures (assuming 22yr old male of 6ft'0in height) :

80KG : 2849 calories daily

90KG : 3004 calories daily

Excess : only 155 calories

So if at 80kg you ate the maint calories of a 90kg guy then you would pretty much be doing what's called lean bulking - very slowly going through the process of adding on lean muscle with minimal fat gains. Still, every body is different and we can't tell for sure whether that excess of 155 calories is going to be enough for your body to react the way you want. Trial and error, bit of logging and you'll have the answer to that. You should know that most bulkers will eat in caloric excess of 500~1000 calories depending on preference.

------------

... if you were 60kg (lean) eating like a 90kg (dirty bulker) guy then the answer would be very different, burst fat gains for a while, with your body going through a 'body recomposition' over a very long period of time. it will eventually settle around the 90kg mark and cut fat/build muscle (assuming proper workout plan with compounds etc.) simultaneously. again, over a very long period of time!
