Auckland Champs - NZIFBB

This was held yesterday at Destiny's church.

There were 74 competitors in total, was a comfortable venue and catering staff on to whip up a meal or coffee for anyone and reasonable prices.

Met Darren O at the door and am sure he looks shorted the wider he gets.

Impressive freaky size!

The female classes were all high quality girls. Very few if any didn't deserve to be there. Its common for some entrants to look out of place on stage but not this time.

There were some great physiques in good condition in the junior and novice classes but the classes were small for mens bodybuilding. Some good conditioning from these smaller guys with square glutes and faint striations.

For the Open physique guys only Garth showed up with any size so couldn't compare him against anyone. Came in big and full but not that conditioned yet. He didn't have to though  and he won the overalls...

The biggest and most popular class was the new Physique class in board shorts. These guys looked and probably are incredibly fit. Most around 20yrs old, low bodyfat without taking it to the extreme, and the girls in the crowd loved it!

This show had the most I've seen at a pre-judging, several hundred people. I didn't go to the night show but would imagine it was sold out or close to it.

Did anyone see the night show?

That's good numbers for the this years NZIFBB Auckland champs and from what I make of the pics from go figure looked like it was a well attend show for both for the average person who was at the show and for the athlete who competed in the show. What were the crowd numbers like at the night show?

Must have had over 500 spectators the place was packed out. garth looked awesome and agree android not one competitor looked out of place which is very impressive considering there were around 75 competitors. bring on the nationals i say  \:D/

I wonder if the Physique class in board shorts is the future of bodybuilding. From a non bodybuilders perspective I don't really have a view about the merits of this. I'm not sure if it is better or worse than PTs convincing their clients to do a novice show after a 12 week challenge.

Crossed my mind while I was there watching them on stage.

I came to the conclusion that these guys are the future of bodybuilding.

They all looked better than most Novice competitors I've seen, and we all looked like this at some time imo. We didn't jump from nothing to muscle-bound for sure. I think given the popularity and the crowd this event pulled we'll see the other Feds opening a class just as similar. This class isn't for older guys though, much like bikini class won't be won by a 40yr old that just looks good in a bikini. That'll hurt if you're over 20 already but that's life, youth wins this class imo

Many of those guys are in the gym trying to get bigger, so if they get the bug to compete from this class and keep adding muscle, they are the future of bodybuilding. The Nationals this year will draw a crowd twice as big so if 500 spectators turned up the other night...then holy cow!

Well said mate and I agree. I suppose I was being bit provocative but you are probably right. It is good to see the sport doing something innovative. Even if it's not purist bodybuilding. And of course it is a lot better than the novice classes being filled up with the 12 week challenge brigade. Or is that still happening?

Saw some pics of Garth on gofigure, wow he looks great. Very nice shape.

With 8 weeks to go until nationals he is going to be hard to beat when he's peeled!

THIS.

Garth has had an exceptional off season looking at what he brought to the stage on Sat. He's improved an already good physique (as displayed at NABBA-WFF Nats in 2011) with some solid mass. If he comes in shredded to bits he could easily be the next Mr NZ for NZIFBB.

That said I did see another good competitor being trained by a PT yesterday, supposedly still at 135ish and cutting for CNI's & Nationals  Time will tell!

Should be some awesome competitors at all Nationals this year - great for our sport!

he is talking about the people on stage who wear board shorts which hides their legs... so he is saying it is the same as having people up there in a singlet with trunks on because they dont have good abs.

his point is valid, however..

my opinion is that its all bodybuilding related at the end of the day... you cant really define bodybuilding except that its improving your physical appearance in one way or another. these classes are really all just getting more people into physical training, good nutrition and steroids... and thats a good thing i suppose.

the whole zyzz and this aesthetics thing is fuuuaaarrkn booming and you can either love it or hate it... but if your smart you'll cash in off it.

True. Lets hope it dies a natural death soon.
