Stuffed Shoulder

Hi Team

So, I need some help.

I used to run half marathons, and loved running until I tore my Paetella in my knee. I ran a half with this, but have had to give up.

I Have always loved training weights, so made a contract with a body building friend, that if he competed I would too. I haven't lived up to my end of the deal yet.

I am aiming to try to get into the body sculpting comps next march. I have a long way to go, but in the last 4 months, I took 45cm off my body.

Unfortunately, I now have a tear in my rotator. So I am going to have to limit or change my upper body workouts. Can anyone suggest a program to help?

Press ups are manageable but hurt like hell.

Any help would be much appreciated...

Keep up the good work guys...

M

My advice would be to get the shoulder looked at ASAP.

Look up and contact a Osteopath in your area, maybe ask people at the gym if they would recommend somebody.

If you train on it depending on how bad which you may not know, it can do a great deal more harm.

A lot of the time you can still do certain training around the injury, along with prescribed rehab to get it healthy as fast as possible and get you back on track

with your competition goal :D

All the best

I definitely wouldn't continue to workout with a torn rota cuff. Best to seek therapy may take a month or two to heal but better than living with in for a long without seeking the treatment. Cortisone shot maybe help with the inflammation and speed up recovery.

Thanks for your help team.

I've been seeing the surgeon, who doesn't at this stage want to operate...and has given me two cortisone injections...

that and months of physio.

I don't want to load too much on my shoulder.. but just keep it toned enough, and to keep it moving...

Even light weights with higher reps? Overhead tri's are out, press ups out, shoulder press out...

very very frustrating!!!

I have worked through RC issues before. Has the surgeon advised you to continue training with a view to strengthening? Or has he prescribed rest?

Depending on the severity of the injury you can train around it if you are smart about things. I have ongoing problems with my left rotator cuff. Since I brought in my grip on all pressing/pulling movements I have been able to continue training.

Jim Wendler recommends bringing in your grip to people without injuries just to increase your lifting longevity. It might limit the weight you can handle initially but you will be rewarded 10 fold for the injuries you avoid down the track.
