Anyone know any good olympic lifting programs?

Recommended Posts

Title says it all, been watching some videos of these guys and there strength is just incredible.

Mean bro - the oly lifts - one of the most frustrating yet satisfying movements - up there with golf I reckon :)

The prog OB suggested above is a great start and I know a few guys that use it.

Bro, depending on where you live - but it would make things easier if you got down to a weightlifting/barbell club to learn the lifts from - it'll save you alot of time and potential injury.

Hope this helps

If you're serious about this, you can't do it at unipol. Solid iron plates, and a no dropping weights policy, combined with no chalk, doesn't equate well to Olympic lifting success.

If you're just wanting to incorporate the lifts to your training, and never going to approach failure, then it'll be fine. If you want to persue it further, and take it seriously to eventually enter competition, you need a watchful eye, at least to start with, and the proper equipment. Get in contact with Mark White - You can email him from that link, or try contact Douglas Sekone-Fraser (search through FB). Mark is the Oly lifting coach for Dunedin, and Douggie's been competing for 5-6 years now I think, studying PE at Otago and might be willing to help out a newcomer.

Failing all that, I could possibly show you the basics, but I'm no Oly Lifter and the two I've mentioned above could likely do more for you in a 1 hour session than I could in 10 hours.

Well so far I'm just planing to try out the lifts and see how difficult they are without much weight at this phase. But I could possibly take it up and will get in contact with the names you mentioned if I enjoy it. Also does anyone have any idea what I might be able to lift?? based on bench deadlift and squat??

Just start with a broomstick or a light 7kg bar, see how that goes, then go from there. Olys is not about weight, but more about technique, the weight will come later.

Probably a better question would be: "where can I find someone to teach me a bit about olympic lifting?". IMHO it's not really something you just "do", as in; download a template, rock up to the gym, and start doing C&J + Snatches a couple of times a week.

As OB says, it is a very technique-focused discipline... poor technique is easy to learn, but hard to forget. Danomyte on these boards could be a good one to ask about a good pathway into the sport and the training methodologies - he's competed at Commonwealth Games level

Beasty, beasty guys, lots of respect for them
