can't do anything at all for 3 months? not even light physical activity like cardio to at least keep fit?

After probably 1 month or so of no physical activity you will start experiencing muscle atrophy. you can help against the process somewhat by ensuring adequate food for the muscles (protein) but ultimately the tissue will start to break down because they're no longer required (back to couch potato lifestyle).

you can minimise fat gains by controlling your diet as well as some cardio(if you're allowed) .

on the bright side, 3 months isn't really enough to turn you into skin & bones (unless you cut off protein from your diet ). when you do get back to working out you'll find the muscle comes back with a lot less effort (well, at least faster) than it took to grow it the first time around.

I'm sure you can do "something" in the next 3 months although you definitely need to be careful about it.

If you are losing weight, eat more. If you gain a bit of fat over the next few months, so be it. As long as it's not a big amount you can get rid of it pretty quickly once you start training again
