What is everyones opinion on ideal training time of the day?

What would be (in your opinion) the optimum time to train, or where in your meal schedule would you consider to be ideal?

eg after M1 then feeding your body the rest of the day? or after m5 and before m6/bed...

thoughts....

my schedule pretty farked to be honest. up at 5am, home at 6. sleep for 3 hours, dinner/gym/more food/ back to bed at 1.

** i train around 10pm - 24 hours gym and its usually empty at this time so i can do whatever i want - no waiting for gear, nice and quite.

I prefer to be well fed also, I don't particularly like training after 5pm because 1) I HATE waiting for gear and 2) I like having time to relax between dinner and then bed. I work seasonal shift work (3x 12hr days followed by 3x 12hr nights then 3x days off) so when it's busy as I basically train whenever I can.

Basically comes down to personal preference and how it works around your lifestyle.

i like to train in mornings. 1. because it wakes me up and keeps me sharp and alert for the rest of the day, 2. because its not so busy, and 3. because i take caffiene pre workout (imo shouldnt take caffiene too late in the day)

the only downside about going at this time is theres not that many hot sluts at this time (only the fat ones make the effort to get up this early).

The optimum time to train (for strength or hypertrophy) is in the late afternoon and early evening. So between 4-7pm. This is because the bodies temperature peaks during this time (i.e you are at your warmest). Your bodies temperature is at its lowest at around 4am and slowly increases from there untill it hits its peak in the early evening. When your bodies temp is at its highest your ability to perform "gross motor skills" (i.e heavy lifting ability) are at thier peak. If you are wanting to perform activities that require more dexterity and accuracy (fine motor skills) then these are best done in the mid morning around 10 to 11am.

Your testosterone levels peak first thing in the morning and decrease during the day - wouldn't that equate to meaning the best time to train is in the morning? (and raise your body's temp by warming up beforehand?)

By following that logic, cortisol is also at it's peak first thing in the morning, so it's a terrible time to train...

From memory I think studies have shown performance to be best during the afternoon, I can't recall if the differences were very significant at all though. But in reality, if you train in the morning because you work a full time job, have to pick the kids up after school or from extracurricular activities, need to prepare meals, meet friends, basically have a life... Is it really going to be worth all the hassle trying to change your training to a time of day that may be 'optimal' in a lab, at the expense of making the rest of your life that much more difficult or less fulfilling?

People may be able to argue a few hours this way or that, depending on what variables or research they're basing it on, but in reality 'optimal' is whenever you can actually get into the gym, and put in the effort you need to, to reach your goals. Not worrying about anything else, just focusing on the task at hand. All things the same, I doubt person A training at 6am, person B at noon, and person C at 6pm will see any different results from each other.

We need to quit focusing on the little things that don't matter, do what works for you and your lifestyle, and just lift some tin

I'm not focusing on it mate, thread was more for conversational purposes. Certainly wouldn't make huge sacrifices to train in some 'optimum window'.

However I have a very Autonomous/flexible job where if I wanted to I could train whenever...

Anyway interesting post by HP, and others. Was exactly what i was after. 8)

":2iic1ksn]I think what phedder was trying to say is that the problem is you're focusing on the things in life that don't really matter. When I was a kid I had hopes and dreams. We all did. But over time, the daily grind gets in the way and you miss the things that really matter, even though they are right in front of you, staring you in the face. I think the next time you should ask yourself "Am I on the right track here?". I don't mean to be rude but people like you I really pity. So maybe you could use the few brain cells you have and take advantage of the knowledge I have given you now. Good luck.

Yeah that wasn't specifically targeted at you, just fit with the direction my post ended up taking :)

Following your natural body clock would be some good general advice for most to follow if possible, eg if you're naturally more awake and alert in the morning, and often get 3.30itis, then chances are you'd be better off training in the morning compared to the afternoon. Same goes for night owls, or people who just hate/suck at life in the mornings. I'm no good for anything before 10-11am :shifty:
