Need a new barbell

The two I have are bending so that's shit.

Where would you recommend me buying a new one? I assume the $140 20kg Olympics on trade me will begin to bend in a couple of years? I Don't know much about equipment.

I am not moving huge amounts of weight but think I would rather buy quality and I assume quality will prevent the bar from bending over time after it has lifted X amount of weight.

I don't want to spend $1000.

Any recommendations?

Home use.

if a good barbell doesn't bend then why do people always throw around the saying "if it ain't bending you're just pretending" ?

Depends on the type of bar, but if it does bend, it should always return to dead straight once the load is removed. Nothing worse than using a bent bar for squats and having it roll down your back

And people want to sound hardcore

A quick look on GetStrength and they've got 2 bars which aren't terribly expensive; 1000lb bar and 1500lb bar Hopefully someone here who's actually used those bars could chip in? Or could be worth asking Steak/Oldbull/Dr Squat where they source their bars, as we know they all take a beating

The $300 one on no1 fitness doesnt bend with 220kg but its been about a year now and the collars are sliding off because the bearings are fucked up now. Annoying as hell and Ive screwed ot back in but now it doesnt swivel, the collars are fixed. Not that I notice any difference but I hear that its harder to do oly lifts with fixed collars

So you haven't tried to switch it with a good one at your place of worship?

Ill hold onto it until it falls apart. Then Ill buy a quality barbell, or get a gym membership

Don't notice it on deadlifts? I found once or twice lifting with fixed bars, if your bar path isn't straight and the collars don't rotate, the bar itself can rotate in your hands due to the energy from the plates spinning transferring to the bar (which the collars would usually handle by spinning themselves), potentially tearing your hands up if the knurling is bad + hands are soft. Can be a problem if you roll the bar to start as that sets the plates spinning.

Here's your 1500lb bar bro!

files.php?pid=2422&aid=68

The full run down from the House can be found here: http://www.powerhousegym.co.nz/gymforum ... hp?tid=331

At the end of the the day any bar will bend if mistreated - particularly when being dumped on a rack! Even a good Elieko that'll sting ya for USD$1000 - $1100 plus freight.

Awesome  How can these bars be rated for 1500lb, if they bend at well under 1000lb...?

Bonus with an Elieko is the lifetime guarantee, I'd just want to be strong enough to ensure you get your monies worth

That could be a problem but I haven't gone heavy since they've become fixed and doing 100kg deads I haven't noticed anything yet. I also don't roll the bar so dunno

This was on get strength, the info I was after

Research has shown that anything under 190,000 PSI develops permanent bends over time. (pounds per square inch)

The lower priced bars don't seem to say what rating they are. But Ill send an email :)
