alternatives for overhead presses/incline press

Recommended Posts

yo,

My friend is preparing for his first comp but his shoulder is a bit rooted, and hurts like a mother when doing overhead presses or incline presses, any idea of any alternative exercises that won't make him do faces that rival mine when lifting? He's seen an osteopath...had them chinese needles in him too the pain comes back a few days later, oh and taking time off is not an option since he's already had over a week off, plus he has been saying he will try to do one for a while and is sick of delaying it and giving his other bros and female bros false promises.

Anyway back to the question what else is there to do for front delt? thinking of doing front raises and maybe hammer str machine for incline chest, but keen on reading what others do.

Please don't troll or I will have a cry since I am a delicate flower

Try sitting on a machine press in the reverse position...facing the seat back. Keep constant tension on by not locking out at the top or going too low with the elbows. Pressing this way is a bit more forgiving on rotators & hits the rear delt real nice.

Interdasting my try this out myself.

I wouldn't recommend doing any overhead presses or incline presses at all. If there is that much pain there is a reason for it.

Did the Osteopath say to get straight back into overhead or incline pressing?.

Why is it so important to work the front delt?, its one of the most over used and abused muscles around. Give it a rest, get qualified input into getting the pain to ease and start some type of rehabilitation.

Someone that says to cure a shoulder issue where pain is worst in pressing movements by just more pressing or isolating the muscle is being irresponsible :naughty:

He pretty much said to do lateral raises with 4-5kg dumbbells with arms straight everytime I am at the gym to strengthen that area and in 3 weeks time to to do overhead presses... tbh I dunno why but with dieting and getting ready for a silly comp it's worrying me that I do not do overhead presses/or any incline work during chest day.

I tried the method musclenz said (with light weights for 3-4 reps) and it felt real good, however I might skip on doing overhead work for next week too.
