CAPO New Zealand

Optimass

Recommended Posts

Capo is an affiliate of the WPC. The WPC has a number of different affiliates covering pretty much any powerlifting you want to do. Check out the WPC website and on the front page youll see the AWPC(tested)

the WPC weight classes ar a lot fairer IMO. 110->125->140 and 140+ where in the IPF its a world of weight from 105 ->120 then 120+ meaning a 123kg lifter is up against the 150 and 160 kg guys. In saying this though the growing trend is for the bigger guys to lean down a bit. This could be due to these lifters age though as most younger guys in the sport are not bulking up old school these days. In NZ there are not many SHWs anyway.

Of more concern would be the IPF trend now of wanting to push RAW comps... Probably for $ reasons and single ply lifters want it overseas. A shift here will leave equipped lifters pissed off and maybe not able to compete where/when they normally would. CAPO, under the WPC wont be going down that road as its already in place with raw, raw plus and equipped to whatever level you want to take it too. CAPO should go well here in NZ for that reason alone . I for one will enjoy the trans-tasman support and comradre(sp) and being able use otc supps without fear or bans

You can choose to compete tested, untested, raw (knee sleeves and belt) raw+ (knee wraps and belt) or equipped. Equipment is unlimited.

Also interested in this. How can you choose to compete either tested or untested?

Its my understanding that CAPO New Zealand will be announcing its 1st ever competition here in NZ early next week. I can confirm the venue will be Coast Barbell Club as we have been approached and the committee has discussed and agreed to lease the venue and gear. Before the haters start hating CBC supports powerlifting as a sport and just as if a NZPF Association had asked to lease the space and gear, it is only a fair decision. CBC is a non profit organisation and gets no funding from any sporting organisation so we have to work hard and gather funds where we can. Keep you in the loop

they can, but if they do they risk being sanctioned/banned from ipf comps i think. probably something the nzpf will be clarifying in the near future

There are also no restrictions with CAPO for Strongman competitors. IPF do not sanction participation under their rules from lifters competing in strongman events that include a "Deadlift". - (have heard there have been cases internationally).

Record setting for CAPO

Criteria

All age categories are applicable to the lifter on the day of the meet.

Example: Lifter aged 17 on day they lift at a meet can lift in Teenage Men (16-17)

Lifter aged 39 on day they lift at a meet, but has a birthday the following day can lift in Open section

Records set in any age category, if they are the highest, will be the OPEN record, as well as the aged record.

The SubMasters section is for record purposes only. There is no such division in any meet.

The lifter must be a current financial member to have a record ratified.

Australian ans New Zealand records can only be claimed at State titles or National meets.

bro, the rules are clear and strict. they are just not enforced uniformly. According to the IPF/NZPF constitution, any lifter who has lifted at a lifting/pl/club comp not sanctioned by nzpf will face a penalty/ban.

so officially, any lifter who has lifted at a club lift that wasnt officially sanctioned by nzpf should be banned. Some big names are on the long list of people who qualify for a ban under this :?

I expect that its quite a big job for anyone (nzpf etc) to try and keep track of the people that violate this part of the constitution, someone would have to keep a list of every name registered to CAPO, every name of anyone competing at club lifts/novice meets, just so they can know whether someone new to nzpf can lift with them.

but in saying that, its always a grey area, a great example being at the bench champs just gone with a lifter allowed to be benching in a bare soft suit. He violated the rules, but noone cares. And that is the case across the board.

not trying to start a bumfight or anything but plenty of feces gets slung at CAPO and CAPO affiliates, i dont think conforming to your own constitution is too much to ask....

Can somebody explain the differnce between CAPO and IPF please?

Does CAPO drug test?

What kind of gear does CAPO use? Single ply gear like IPF?

Squats? Walk out?

Bench? Touch and go or wait for Lift signal?

Etc etc

You can choose to compete tested, untested, raw (knee sleeves and belt) raw+ (knee wraps and belt) or equipped. Equipment is unlimited.

tested??? But is anyone ever tested? I know some lifters that competed at local, national and international level in AWPC and they say they have never heard of anyone being tested and that its all a bit of a joke. Does the lifter organise their own tests?

Its a legit question SP has asked and will be interesting to see the answer. if he gets one. Will it be DFSNZ tested?

BTW that lifter is just lucky he hasnt been caught. He should f*ck off to another fed before he does get caught. Pretty weak too for a gassed lifter if its the guy i think it is......

his question is legit, but so was my answer, in that being tested doesnt make any fed clean.

As for the details of it, they will come out as they are established. the CAPO branch of NZ has literally only just been created, it will take some time for these sorts of details to come through. We will let you know. If you have questions that cant be answered via the CAPO website, direct them to optimass on here, he is the 1st point of contact.

yeah- I'm legit. It is a serious question.

EESSSPEEE= SP aka humphrey

oh my niggah SP! hows it hanging brotha? lol

as for your comment re testing, the bench comp just held a fully gassed guy competed in, nzpf regged and all, so mocking a non ipf fed for lack of testing seems .............. legit

I think you have taken this the wrong way. I was not mocking. I do not know how it works with AWPC. I assume the lifter organises the test- or is it the fed? I have no idea- hence the question.

I ask because guys I know- from PTC Frankston and some from OPO- lifted with AWPC- the guys from PTC when to the AWPC worlds- they said no one was tested- not even those going for world records. They said the whole 'tested' thing was a joke. I am not saying its a joke- I was just asking questions. If some dude is gassed lifted IPF he is an idiot. Hope he gets caught. Rules don't stop people cheating.

But I guess that is different than having no testing at all and saying its tested- if that is indeed what the case is.

No testing regime is ever full proof SFS - and can be manipulated to exclude individuals. Anyone that has been around bodybuilding for any length of time will testify. If your fed has a financial budget to test only the shows and athletes that will represent internationally - as a result those in the "loop" will know which shows will be tested and which not. (Have seen this in body building and been told it happens in powerlifting here too). Who has the money to test every athlete at every show?

I have heard that INBA polygraph athletes at world champs - have been told by a few competitors. Seems like a cheaper strategy but doesnt fit the criteria for olympic consideration if thats the line you are choosing to follow.

yeah- I'm legit. It is a serious question.

EESSSPEEE= SP aka humphrey

Will come back to you on this mate - I know AWPC shows used to be run in conjunction with INBA who fund their own testing regime through ASADA. (Although I'm not sure ASADA actually do the testing on behalf of AWPC). Will ask the question for you and post back soon.

Lots being worked through currently - but will get to the detail once we lock in dates for the Sept show and the Deadlift event later in the year.

... interesting points given for the most part in Australia whether you compete AWPC or not doesnt really factor much. It's all good fun and strong lifting in the end - doesnt matter what your preference is.

Response has been amazing so far - and from people not even otherwise associated with powerlifting - all very positive and exciting.

:D

  • 2 weeks later...

Many of the referees are or have been doing exams this past week.

Both WPC and GPA exams are being done.

The official word on our affiliation with the GPA comes through this week.

The GPA is RAW + Federation (belt and knee warps for squat) and will be a welcome addition to raw lifters requiring more support than a neoprene knee sleeve can provide. No restrictions on brands either. WPC rules for knee wraps at 2.5m long and 1m for wrists 8)

The IPF rule regarding 2m long knee wraps is anal. Why let a lifter use wraps when in some cases they are not long enough to do the job. They are there to spport the joint and there is only a small amount of carryover. 1/2 the time the big fellas pop a knee out anyway cos they cant get decent cover over the patella.

Good work CAPO NZ. RAW+ will be a welcome addition to what you are going to offering any encourage masters to compete raw for longer or make a comeback to the sport.

2m isnt long enough to go round a knee? I dont know how you wrap knees but 2m is plenty. As you say they are there to support the joint not do the lift for you. How long do you need?

Small amount of carryover? Have you ever used them before? sometimes people can get 40+kgs out of knee wraps.

I havnt been in the sport long but have not heard of people popping knees out. Normally its backs which are injured because knee and hip joints are so well supported that the weakest point (back) gives way.

But hey, you guys do things differently down in CDs. What do I know
