TRT in pro sports

Recommended Posts

I know I always post troll shit but as of late I've been noticing more and more pro MMA fighters having been going the TRT route in order to jump on the jungle juice wagon... Some say being a pro athlete all the physical activity you do "burns testosterone" and the only way to replinish it is to go on TRT, others say it helps them heal injures, and then the majority say they have a low test count and need to jump on it.

What do you think about it?

My view is even if it's administered by a doctor so the fighter's test is in the normal range and not abused it still gives them an uneven edge over those who decide to fight and an entire career being natty I reckon it's just an excuse for some ...not saying it's good or bad but in a sport where fighter's safety should be the first thing it might not be a fair advantage...that or they create a league where everyone is allowed to be on gear ( will never happen)

How about in other sports how do you guys feel about it?

low carb day made me type this

It is cheating in a way but I think its acceptable within an agreed normal or slightly elevated range.

Mainly because the training fighters go through is very intense to the point when they would be exhausted and not recovering. No one wants to see weak fighters step in the ring, the general public wants to see a titans duel it out. The public fuels the sport so give the fighters what they want so the crowd gets what they want.

Its a hard line when it comes to combat sports just like bodybuilding...no one wants to see weak fighters or small bodybuilders.

Is being dependent on insulin and doing Power Lifting considered cheating guys? Can a person without diabetes take insulin and compete without cheating?

A TUE is available for diabetics, so by definition not cheating. However if no TUE is applied for and caught it is against the rules (not retrospective TUE's) so cheating! Go figure!

A person without diabetes cannot use insulin under WADA affiliated sports.

Type 1's will die without insulin. Type 2's who need insulin well...... Generally if a type 2 needs insulin they are pretty much buggered indicates poorly managed blood glucose levels for a number of years I can't imagine many people with advanced type 2 diabetes competing in any sports. As far as I'm aware TRT isn't absolutely necessary for living lol. By that I mean staying alive it may greatly increase the quality of someones life

Same argument follows for Asthma meds tho, Salbutamol / Flixotide etc "isn't absolutely necessary for living lol" but "it may greatly increase the quality of someones life". There are TUE's for asthma meds, but not TRT.

I'm not a crusader for TRT, but it is worth noting it is not treated consistently with other meds.

Interesting topic guys!

I've been wondering this myself when looking into TRT and what "normal" levels are. In some ways it's boosting your levels beyond what you would produce naturally (for whatever reason), yet like the comment made earlier - some have high testesterone naturally so have an advantage over those that do not.

I don't think it's cheating as long as levels are maintained within "normal" ranges and can be defended as such :) Who's to say however that they have not boosted above normal ranges in-between competitions...?

I think TRT is cheating in Sports where they test for it.

I lost that feeling of cheating with NZIFBB, NABBA, and NABBA-WFF becasue they never ever test. But in the past when they were testing, I used to think people were cheating.

Can't explain why, just feels wrong if you know they are testing and you take it you're a bloddy cheat imo. If there's no testing, openly none, zero, nada, then I have no problem with it.

I wish Sports were split Natural/ Assisted just like we split out the Disabled crew. At least then if you are Natural and want to be compared against other Naturals you can (INBA for example in BB'ng).

There would be a market of spectators that would like to see Assisted Sprinters, High jumpers, Swimmers, Rugby League players (well we probably already do LOL) break some wicked records for sure.

Assisted Chinese ping-pong players on Cocaine ... f*ck yeah!

The Assisted Melbourne Cup...horses and jockeys wired to the max what a spectacle!

I think with all consuming sports like fighting sports... whatever the athlete can do to get some longevity is a good thing. Especially if the governing body doesn't go against it.

LIke Android I don't get people competing in tested federations while using a bunch of steroids... (guilty though when NZFBB was testing)
