The evolution of NZBB

Recommended Posts

I just did a quick calculation. Since we started this site in 2004, my little gymrat avatar has done approximately 347,673,600 bicep curls. You’d think he’d have grown, but maybe he’s not eating enough.

Anyway, even if Ratty’s biceps haven’t grown in that time, the community sure has. Looking back at how the site used to be, it’s amazing how much has changed.

The biggest shift is in our members’ interests. We’ve moved from being purely a bodybuilding website, to one where the powerlifters nearly outnumber the rest of us. More recently, we’ve seen increases in people training for a whole heap of other sports. I think that’s neat. The inclusive community is exactly what this site is all about.

And so to the next stage of our evolution...

Although NZBB is still ticking along perfectly well, it's not buzzing like it once did. Right now, things just feel a wee bit stale – everyone knows everyone else, and we’re all tired of hearing the same questions get the same answers. Fresh blood is what we need!

So, just as we did for the powerlifters, I’d like to introduce a few more forums catering specifically to those other athletes who lurk here:

- Crossfit training

- Martial arts and boxing training

- Training for other sports (rugby, etc)

NZBB is already the forum for NZ gym-goers, and these changes will bring in new members with new techniques and new ideas that we all can learn from. We’re also trying to organise sponsorship for several new features – I can’t say more just yet, but I’m pretty excited by it all!

All of which, finally, brings me to you. Having read all this, give me your thoughts. Are there any other forums we should create? How should we best arrange them so things are orderly, but not totally segregated? Each of these sports holds competitions – is one generic Competition forum enough for everyone, or should we have a separate Competition subforum for each sport? And so on.

What do you think?

Sounds good bro, onwards and upwards!

How about a bigger forum for Health and Wellbeing. People can discuss health issues and give advice. Anything from acne to injuries, non PE medicines perhaps. It would have to come with a disclaimer about seeking proper medical advice, etc but the people here are sensible and Im sure will advise people to go to a doc if they have somethign that warrants it.

The sick bay is already there so maybe just bringing it out of hiding and making it its own proper forum instread of a subforum? Could be a sub forum for specifically for training-related injuries maybe?

Quite clearly a case of over training quite typical for the charms brigade!

Great idea, good to see the site evolving.

Even though just recently the use of brand names has been banned there is a need for this (perhaps a subsection like play ground, or even a subscription fee to enter?) because there are always newbies who need info and just approaching the biggest guy in the gym isn't exactly the ideal way to find info on brands/suppliers.

Otherwise good

nice progress and good job on trying to lead it ahead. looking forward to see how it turns out in another few years from now.
Yeah a crossfit forum! Although it would just be me and myself in there for awhile wouldn't it :pfft:

what about that tommsauce guy or whoever it was?

Alas poor tomsauce...

I am sure there would be a few people in a crossfit forum icecream. It would actually attract a whole new bunch of people and we could argue about kipping pullups vs regular pull ups and vice versa.

I think it's good to broaden the site Pseudo... the more the merrier and it's always interesting to read about other perspectives and motivations.

a misc, opt in only.

would help contain the miscing going on throughout the whole forum :pfft:

I think the site needs to be more serious and this would just lead to more silly buggers

Yeah there's already the playground for your local miscing needs

Would be nice to have a natty only filter, I am sick and tired of reading threads by juice heads

this.

i think the 'natty 4 life crew' needs its own separate forum to discuss d-aspartic acid and creatine in a natural body-building context

Strange, I was thinking no-one should be allowed to join until they've proven they failed a drug test...but ahh well

srs, I like the crossfit section.

Icecream and [insert 2nd cross-fit person here] can discuss cross-fitting! Think Danomyte might even pop in for a visit

Official mascot of kebab eaters and aesthetics trainers globally!

I reckon the boxing/martial arts one would be sweet. Imagine the trolling by the roid ragers... All 5'1" of those protein drinking villains.be entertaining with a sub forum "call outs and car park settlements"

Icecream, I would whisper sweet crossfit nothing's to you. Fear not.

Oh, and a separate forum for hhhh1's fashion tips. Go the Hhhoff!

My expertise would really come in handy. (no pun intended)

How about instead of suspending people you give them a yellow card, then you give them a double yellow card then you suspend them, but here is a catch....each card is unique and can be traded with other suspended bros, and those who collect all the cards become the new mods? Yeah? yeah? awww yeah
