Lifting for a mate

^ too true Ice cream - NZOC should to send Richie to London. He won his class and won best lifter in the Commonwealth.

I trained with Tevita a couple of times after he tore his quad and he was in bad bad shape - he could hardly walk. I offered him some diclofenac to ease the pain but he refused #Tough. We talked tactics about what he wanted to lift and what would be achievable. He did awesome to lift what he did - 123kg snatch and 157kg cj on a torn quad - really gutsy lifting.

He's immortalised himself in NZ Weightlifting and I'm stoked he's getting the long overdue recognition he deserves.

So how did that compare to his best lifts, Danomyte?

Man, when he missed the first lift and his leg collapsed, I swear I felt the pain myself!

His all time best lifts in competition are 147 snatch 181 clean & jerk (though he's done more in training), but had been doing around 135/175 as of late and was good for 140/180 in Samoa.

He represented Tonga at the 2000 Sydney Olympics and won bronze at the 2007 Pacific Games repping Tonga.

His lifts for NZ at this years Oceania's was his first cap for NZ after a 4-year stint on the sidelines after narrowly missing selection for the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

Just saw this over on the Powerhouse forum - truly, Tevita must be a MAN.

I hope his commitment means that Richie goes to London - to go back out there after that leg collapsed, and to execute the jerk on a leg-n-a-bit, that's surely got to mean something.
