Lying Smith Machine Leg Press

Has anyone done this exercise? Is it any good???

As pseudo said it's more of a make do exercise if you haven't got a proper leg press. However in action it's more like the old inverted leg presses, it's actually really effective for targeting areas of your quads you can't hit effectively on a normal angled leg press. It's just not particularly safe.

As long as you put the stopper locks in, so it can't come down and crush you, and probably a think pad underneath your back, you'll be fine. It mimicks a vertical leg press, which we all know are extremely hard to find in this day and age. And as mentioned above hits area in a way that no angled leg press would get near. Go very light, and have a spotter just in case, until you get used to it to be on the safe side. There is a really old-school pic of a guy doing this free weight, but that's just out-of-control hardcore!!!!

Hi Shane, I use a smiths machine with my clients for doing leg presses, I have found that we get very good results, some of the benefits being that as it is 90degrees you only require about half the weights you would use for a 45 degree press, also lots of people get bad backs from the usual machines and this is the safest, most comforable way to do a leg press. Hope this helps.
