Cold Showers?

Anyone have any experiance of these cold hydro therapy techniques? or whatever fancy name they have given Cold Showers.

Heard about the calorie burning / thermogenic benefits of regular cold showers on a pod cast recently and after doing a bit more research on the subject see numerous positive effects of taking them, from increased testosterone to fighting "onsert insomnia". Allsorts infact!

I just tried one (of which I only lasted 30 seconds of involentary hyperventillating and basic shock) and figured before I commit to enduring THAT TORTURE again, I would see if anyone has any real world experiance of the benefits?

by the way, if you intend on trying them the target time range is 3-5 minutes :o

lol i dunno about any other benefits but i find that after i shower with hot water, soon as i get out i break out into sweat for ages so at the end of normal shower for like 5mins i'll do cold water... only benefit i would credit to it so far is getting rid of that problem

i guess if you've been exercising closer to bed time then a cold shower would also help bring your temperature down a bit to help with sleep too

Hmm? Well the calorie burning theory goes something along the lines of if you cold shock the system it increases your natural temperature to compensate for this. Thermogenisis isn't it called? Maybe I should have pulled the info down and kept on hand to refer to before posting. Sorry for that. But its all there on Google for anyone who's interested.

Can't remember anything to do with why its meant to help with onset insomnia but it can't have been lowering temp if its credited with raising core temp I'd assume?

But then we all know what assumptions do.....

Mmm! Gonna try that contrast therapy now actually. Just got home from Deadlift and little sore already, so good chance to evaluate.

Daniel. Yeah also read something about the immunity boosting benefits too. Maybe I will go back and pull the info I found on this for everyone.

Right wish me luck, off to try this crazy cold shit again...

I think it has to be really cold to make a difference bro. Like an ice bath not just cold shower.

I tryed the hot to cold, hot to cold thing for shin splints a while ago after I would run. All I found it did was mess with the nervous system in my legs. The hot feels hotter than it actuay is because of the cold you've just had abd vice versa. I know the thread wasn't about this but just adding it in.

I can't veiw steaks video as it's not working on my iPhone but I'll watch it when I'm on a pc next. Be interesting to see how it works for u if u stick at it

Did these in my professional playing days. After trainings and after matches. Yes it works in my opinion. We had special baths that was made for this and one has ice with not too much water and the other had hot water. I guess having cold showers and hot showers could do the trick, never really tried it that way. I'll take steak at his word if it works for him.

Yeah Tom I suspect similar based on some of what I read being to put ice pack on the back and shoulders or 80% melt a few bags of ice in a cold bath. But also it did state cold showers for those who can't quiet handle ice baths. Not AS effective but still effective. Plus have you not noticed how cold our Auckland tap water has got again recently? Or you still in the sun? Think from memory the effective temp range started down at 10c to 15% maybe? Definitely started at 10c anyway.

Just had a contrast shower which turned into a 3 minute cold shower just to see if I could. I could and actually starting to like it

Doubt Im ever gonna be bracing ice baths over the chest though
