FLEX FITNESS - Hamilton

Just thought I'd do a quick write up on Flex Fitness, which is just off Te Rapa Road, the Tron.

First up I was in Hamilton briefly & organised a train @ Flex with Soundsgood, when I arrived one of the owners, Ray, had a good chat with me about Strongman etc, good start!! He then gave me a complimentary train even though I tried handing my eftpos card over for a casual - top man in my books!

The other owner, competitive Bodybuilder & Nutritionist Jake Campus, arrived later on & introduced himself and had a yak for a while even though he had stuff to do. Mightily impressed with Waikato hospitality!

The gym itself is a 24 hour gym, with squat cage, benches, barbells, dumbells up to 100lbs (45kg) which SG repped for 12's on shoulder press! (He assures me Jake promised him a heavier set soon!!). There is a separate stretching / ab area.

There are some nice machines as well & good cardio gear with big screen TV's which made a nice distraction for me on the crosstrainer!

They have expanded the gym already and have an empty area waiting for some new gear.

Definitely recommended if you're a Hamilton BBer / Fitness fanatic. Ladies wanting some expert knowledge would be wise to catch up with Stacey who is an ex-bikini competitor now doing figure class.

Ninja a casual is $10. Alternatively you can sign up for a free 7 day trial while you are here and train for free for the week. I'll keep an eye out for you ;)

$10 is a good casual rate as an aside! I just paid the discounted (cos I came with a member) casual rate at Les Mills Takapuna again, $20 to do biceps, upper chest work & cardio....lol

Anyway of to do cardio again now - might walk instead of $25 for a 30 min X-trainer session (no discount when your training partners still asleep!!!).

That said in Hawaii in 1992 I remember being asked for $25 USD to train at Golds in Waikiki - being a student & the fact that's probably $100 NZD in todays terms I politely declined, went and trained at a local YMCA and spent the balance on Budweiser!! ;)

Hi Iv just sinned up so I can ask a question about this gym, Iv recently decided to start bodybuilding and In the last 4 months have been hitting the gym with the intention of losing weight, 15 kg's now which was my goal, so I wasn't walking around with a gut for a year or two will training. I'm a full on newbie to the gym let alone bodybuilding so I want to Know if there is a program for beginners. I guess you could call it a coaching class, some where I can go get in a group of like minded people with an experienced coach to push me but more importantly push me in the right direction. Do these groups exist? and if there isn't one at this gym is there any in Hamilton?

Yeah of course bro! Just bloody clean up after yourself!

As for interested in bodybuilding we have at least 10 competitors training at Flex at the moment. If you want to take it further your best bet would be to talk to the owners and they will point you in the right direction. There are plenty of programmes available in the resource section of this programme too. Develop a solid base then progress from there. Don't jump straight into the more advanced stuff.

So i went along for a casual session at flex last night when i was down in the tron

Awesome gym, plenty of floor space around the free weights so didnt feel cramped. Didnt have to wait for any benches or machines which i thought for 5.30 on a tuesday was good

All pretty new equipment, plenty of benches and no shortage of dumbells or barbells. Friendly staff too. Definitley would recommend to anyone

Saw soundsgood there to doing cardio on the eliptical Cross trainer thingy

Your looking pretty tank mate good luck for the show! :nod:
