Former NZFBB President goes NABBA

Recommended Posts

Definitely be interesting to see how he looks, he was very very good when he won the NZFBB Nationals in 1996.

I think I have pics some where in an archive box ... him and Jo look amazing. I hear people often knock him for the fact he suposedly awarded himself a pro-card but when you saw him compete that year he definately looked very much like he was ready to take the step up. I was also under the impression that he was encouraged on many occasion prior to that show to apply for professional recognition. Quality physique ...

Great to see him return to the stage ... I bet he looks better than Arnold having had the time off

Question I'd have is how would Mark Stewart go against Phil Kuklinski in the Masters O50 class? They'd be the two favorites across the country at that age I'd imagine?

Would Mark consider competing in Chch Classic or another NABBA-WFF show, the obvious choice if he wants so higher level competition offshore.

No in 96 when he did his last comps I was doing Nabba shows. I remember watching that show though and he was a real standout, his younger brother Eric who I had trained with quite a lot won the middleweights and Shawn Ray guest posed. It was actually a toss up as to who would win overall out of the Stewart brothers. Mark with his awesome conditioning and full round muscle bellies but a little light in the lower body and Eric with his awesome balance and condition and crazy wheels.

Mark just looked amazingly full - I remember his brother was quite impressive but Mark had a substancially thicker look to his physique.

Just saw Mark Stewart at the NABBA show pre-judging.

Best condition of any competitor at the show tbh. He chose Open class (tall?) to compete in and were 5-6 guys other in it. I didn't get a chance to see much of the others, Mark stole the limelight with his condition and posing. Rota Elliot had a better balanced Physique IMO but nowhere near the condition of Mark. Legs were ripped, Back looked quite big and Shoulders pretty good as well. Nice set of abs, and the most memorable thing about Mark was his side posing...his Legs, Hammys and Glutes had clear separation going on. He's definitely worked hard to get like this.

The only let down for me from Mark was his biceps which makes his bicep posing look like an Masters competitor (if that makes sense, old dudes pose funny), but he'll win that class and possibly the overalls as well for condition and a balanced physique.

Front bicep pose doesn't need the old Superman up, up, and away pose every single time :-) it's a nice touch...but every single time? He loved it up on stage tbh, the crowd loved him as well. This is the guy that helped me get into bodybuilding and was always honest and open to me about posing, and my size. I like the guy he's a legend.

Last class I think were Open short had 10 guys in it. Teens had 2 guys, Novice (short?) had 3 guys.

Quite a good turn-out, lots of competitors I think they had 60+ competitors in this show and it ran like clock-work with a nice intermission before Open Mens physique came out.

Just thought the show had ended and out walked a class of Figure girls I think there were 12 in the class? Wow, haven't seen that many in one class for a while at a local show really good to see.

What else...an International Physique girl was there, very tall and muscular was good to see this kind of quality regardless of how masculine she might have looked.

Two of the 4 fitness girls had memorable routines, Shape girls were awesome to watch as well. Figure girls had it tough one stand-out lady in red must have been to ripped or something she had a tight package and shape was superior but have heard they don't like them looking so muscular.
