New member, new gym

hey I have recently moved to NZ from England and I am currently living in Auckland. I am competing in 2 weeks at Nabba Aucklands. I currently weigh 275lbs at 6 foot. I have been training at Les Mills Takapuna for the past week since I have been here but am wondering what gym you guys would recommend as I cannot afford to be paying casuals every day and Les Mills is a little pricey for me. I am living in Takapuna at the moment. Thanks

Awesome, they have a good lineup of big guys competing in NABBA each year...boy will they be in for a shock though if they never seen you before

As for gyms on the Shore sorry I dunno...but Les Mills Takapuna is way to small, lots of gear but small area to swing the weights around in.

I'm not being a hater, or doubting ya, in fact all I'm saying is that if you are 250lbs @ 6 foot, then I want tickets to that show, cos that is freakshow proportions!!

Keep it to yourself mate, just surprise everyone with whatever you're bringing.

I know 4 years ago a guy jumped off the plane from California into the North Harbour NABBA show and looked amazing (ok the local fav. Stan won again but there u go ... )

From memory (and picking Harry's brain) the biggest guys to compete in NZL have been:

Darryn Onekawa, approx. 120 onstage, just under 6'

Hugh Willis, approx. 115 onstage at 6'4 ish.

Andre Trebar, 123 onstage at Nabba Pro am.

Hayden Wineerea, approx. 120 at 6'3

Matt Ashworth, 115 @ 6'4"

Eddie DeHaus, 115+ @ 6'5"

Must be a few other monsters I've forgotten!

Well just cos it hasn't been done yet doesn't mean it can't be done so I am looking forward to seeing him! Looks like we got a helluva pro in the making!

No Pro Cards in NABBA NZL bro!

In fact if the NABBA-WFF folks are correct there are no real international events of any magnitude from this NABBA NZL show?

Welcome to the forums, Devolo. Check out Burn Fitness, a 24 hour gym in Takapuna. I've never been there, but I've heard good things about it. The only thing is, I know they were reaching capacity, so they may not be accepting new members at the moment. But certainly worth asking them. (And IMO, any gym that closes its doors to prevent overcrowding is a good one!)

I'm moving to the North Shore soon, let me know how the research goes on the gym front as I've only trained at LM Takapuna & Harbour City Fitness.

AUT, Burn, Millenium etc I haven't seen yet?

Nate

PS - I could do with a 275lb 6% training partner!!! Might make me up my game to catch up!

Wow. Buzzkill.

You the guy who turns off the inlet tap in the toilet, flushes, dumps, and wipes in another toilet?

Just asking.
