Triceps....what gives?

Recommended Posts

Been noticing on my tricep workouts lately that I feel as if I am 'losing it' (feel/pump - everything) when I go from cable exercises to free weights and I can't figure out why

I'm careful with my lifting - slow, controlled making sure technique is good. Anyone else have this issue or know how to fix it? Should I just stick to cables or throw the free weights first. I don't have this issue with any other body part.

My routine is 4 sets pushdowns (rope), 3 x pushdowns (bar), 3 x single arm reverse grip pull downs, 3 x skull crushers, 3 x DB overhead extensions

Try doing less exercises, and put more effort into say, 3 or 4.

If I start off with a free weight, it would generally be close grip bench, because it's a compound.

Generally though, I would start off with a cable exercise to pump the blood in, then do free weight exercises, and the another cable exercise and maybe another free weight if I want.

Do you do drop sets, supersets etc.?

They're doing what you routinely trained them to do...change that shit up, find new exercises and dump the ones you do every single time, day in day out, time after time....etc

What Android said, plus I'd add that if yuo aren't feel anything happening when you do your latter exercises, don't do them. I personally train a bodypart until I get a great pump and I can feel it working from start point to finish. Sometimes that might only take one exercise.

Don't be a slave to a routine.

Close grip bench, skullcrushers & dips. Forget the cables and do just those 3 for a workout with lots of intensity.

Another thing I find is to keep your elbows tucked when doing tris. e.g when your doing skullcrushers keep your elbows squeezed tight towards each other and dont let them flare out. Gives me a much better feel in tris anyway.

my sercet weapon is super-setting ez bar skull crushers with close grip press with same weight. make sure your keep the weigth moving and focus on the squeeze at the top of the rep. keep rest down and feel that pump!! i normally do this after dips or close grip bench. save the pulldowns for your last tri exercise cause lets face it theyre easy.
