Ok here it is, since pretty much everyone I know at the gym can't actually fit into one of those off-the-rack suits (and almost every other type of clothing!) - So where can we get suits from? (guess this is for gents only)

Obviously can't RENT/HIRE... since those cothing are still made to regular body ratios.

1) Is bespoke suits the only option here?

2) What are the usual places to get (A) suits? (B) shirts?

3) Any special recommendations if you've done this before?

4) I guess also, there MUST BE extra measurements taken (more than your 'standard bespoke' measurements - taking into account muscle increase for BBs as opposed to just 'fat' ppl (no offence intended). I'm thinking I could take my own measurements too.

5) Are there rumours of special tailors for BBs?

I've never really had this discussion before... Sooo, the more the merrier!

Thanks all.

Daniel

what i do:

buy pant a few sizes too big. my thighs don't into anything smaller than a 40inch waist when my waist is only 36max. then take it to clothing alterations shop get them take the waist into suit. mine fine and alot cheaper than having them made.

Shirts i get from cutler&co grab the extra long and a size that sits nicely on your shoulders and get the same alterations done to narrow the waist and show off your taper to boot.

Jackets: find a taylor and spend the bucks. taylored jackets are pimp.

Most good stores will offer suits where you pick the jacket and trousers separately - I know NZ brands like Rembrandt and Cambridge do.

Pick the key dimensions and find the separates which fit - and make sure sleeves/ legs are too long (easier to shorten than to lengthen LOL ).

Then, find a place that does alterations - either the shop, if it's a menswear shop, or in the yellow-pages. In Wellington I can recommend Topline Tailors on Dixon St.

Same with shirts, unless you're a Lotto winner and want to go tailor-made from Working Style !

 ... hahaha.

Nice looking web site Daniel ... special discount for members or we sign you up to every viagra/world of warcraft spamming web site on the net ...

kidding mate - if you want to advertise you must see our admin > but suspect you may do alright if you make to order lol.

still a handy thread imo - I have one woolen jacket I wear winter times - and the rest of the year I generally wear a waist coat to a formal event as I steam in a full jacket.

last time I was in Bali I got 2 waist coates + 2 pairs pants for $100 kiwi

Thanks guys, I'll check out the suggestions!

I was giving this some serious thought. Not just for BB, though of course perfect BB measurements for tailoring would be the ultimate goal. Because most guys aren't BBs, but guys don't need to be a BB to start realising off-the-rack doesn't work anymore. Even if we forget massive biceps, just shoulder/chest/upper-back vs waist ratios are common enough.

BB who actually wear suits must get this SOMEWHERE. And I don't know of any special bodybuilders' tailoring around. And surely the measurements needed for the tailoring parts are very different. I suppose most BBs won't entertain the idea of wearing a suit - just cos even for a regular guy, the tailoring is way tricky, and way fitted - so it's probably too difficult to get a well fitted BB suit. Just imagine having to create a new one everytime muscle size increases! lol At least with casual tees the material can stretch.

Which gets me thinking I could perhaps try to figure this out!

Say you have 2 guys with pretty much exactly the same regular tailoring measurements: but one's regular build, and the other's BB, right. I think it's possible to get the same measurements given what tailors do.

Now the BB can't possibly fit into the same exact tailored clothing as the other guy with the same measurements. Muscle flex must be an issue. Clearly more body measurements is needed to be taken.

I've just started researching into this specifically. Trying out this and that.

Guess once I've got this figured out, it'll be nice to have BB suits as a prize at some nz bb comp - lol a breath of fresh air from supplements as prizes!

[Any more ideas?

So you're not supposed to be doing extreme flexing while wearing a suit - AFTER ALL, it's a formal attire, right, but there must be some room for flexation in a suit for BB.

I'm thinking EXTRA measurements for BB should be:

- neck (this is part of the normal process anyway)

- shoulder width (this is part of the normal process but BB range from very very curved delts and some have insane rear delts... huge range of developments possible)

- flexed bicep (widest point),

- lats?? (where exactly? * loop at top of lats (below armpit) AND * bottom (middle to low ribs) AND * also how long the lats stretch diagonally too? - this is problematic.

- quads (* widest point when seated AND * standing)

- calves (widest point)

- knee (part of the normal thing too)

---- any other parts that may be important?

Be great if this could work as a DIY measurement process, cos BBs can already do measurements themselves (or at least with the help of a friend).

The measurements are different from BB and tailoring - cos usually in tailoring, it really only concerns the widest point to make sure there's enough room for movement. Again, it's formal attire, so no one's expecting anyone TO DO SQUATS lol

Thanks all
