Cut n paste below from 2 of the competitors - sounds awesome - 4 events & 4 records broken (including my Herc Hold one from 2009! ).

Sam Magele in first, 2pts back Colm, Nick in third, Jono in forth or fifth.

Day 2 will be a blinder - get down to the Easter Show and support NZL's strongest!

This is one of the most competitive comps ever. A quality field and records being smashed in every event, often multiple times. Sam has the new truck pull record of bout 32secs after half the field beat the old record.

Jono broke the log record with 162kg after Sam lifted 155 and Colm got 140.

The herc hold record got broken I think twice before Colm came in and monstered a 1min24secs.

Mike Olsen went first in the anvil carry at 730pm after a long day. He picked it up and ran for 125m beating the old record by 16m.

Plenty of other standout performances;

Sean Poole with a very fast truck pull, 3rd by .06 secs

Dan lambert 120kg log, Danny nemani 130kg log easily

Hayden 100m anvil carry.

6 guys getting over 1min in herc hold.

First big comp for Abraham, putting in consistently good performances.

Leader board is tight, still open for anyone. 12 competitors, 1 day left.

Spot on Hayden!!

Hayden's had a good day in the office aswell, with gutsy performances in each event. His anvil carry was awesome - the crowd went mental cheering him on!!!!

That crowd has been MASSIVE aswell, with about 200+ in the crowd for each event. It's the biggest live crowd I've ever competed in front of for any sport. Defintely added a few more kgs/meters on each event.

Event 6 axle press. Sam 12reps, Jono 10 and pass out, Colm 9, Hayden 8.

Event 7 tire flip: Nick 35s, Colm 40.5, Jono 40.7, Mike 41, Sam 43.

Nail biting stuff Nate thanks for the updates.

The chop and change in placings are a reflection on the variety of tests? ... just guessing but tire flipping is cardio-related as well as strength?

hows our very own strong man Tom going?

Yes to your question Android - as magnus magnusson (WSM multiple) said - to be a great strongman you must have no weak events!

Tyre flip was with 300kg tyre, so pre-requisite is to be strong, but definitely a cardio event!

Tom didn't do NZSM, never has. Think his focus is crossfit atm.

Anyway results!

Colm beat Sam by 1sec on stones to win. Nick 3rd, me 4th. I (Wookie) knocked 4th barrel over and had to redo. Nick 22.8s, Colm 34, Sam 35, me 51 for the stones.

Overall Colm, Sam, Nick, Jono.

AWESOME EVENT!!!! Great to be part of this one.

The crowds were MASSIVE - 200+ per event - biggest live crowd I've competed in for any sport - awesome buzz. Definitely added more kgs/meters/secs on to everyones events.

Unofficial results:

1st overall and NZs Strongest Man - Colm Woulfe

2nd - Sam 'The Smiling Assassin' Magele

3rd - Nick 'The Hammer' Hansen

4th - Jono 'Wookie' Macfarlane

5th - Mike Olsen

6th - Hayden Kumerich - NZs U/105 Strongest Man

7th - Mark ' Massive' Mete

8th - Sean Poole

9th - Dan Lambert

10th - Danomyte :)

11th= - Alex Orwin & Ibrahim Yousef

Really close going into the last event, with battles all through the field to determine final placings = no places were secure.

6 of the 8 events had NZ Records broken:

Truck Pull - Sam Magele - really fast :) (the rec was broken 5-6 times!!)

Log Lift - Wookie - 162kg

Hercules Hold - Colm Woulfe - 1:24min (the rec was broken 2 times)

Anvil Carry - Mike Olsen - 125 meters

Farmers Walk - Nick Hansen - really fast :)

Apollons Axle - Sam Magele - 12-reps

Some other stats:

- Nick Hansen was under 1-sec from seating new NZ records in the tyre flip and stones.

- Colm joined an elite group of 5 (I think) to load all 5-stones in competition.

- 6 guys went over 1-min in the herc hold

- everyone completed the 14-tonne truck pull (even 79kg Alex Orwin!!!)

- Mark Mete and Wookie announced their retirement in Strongman competitions :(

Cheers to Matt Rossiter for organising a great comp. Cheers to Nigel, Richard and Junior for keeping the comp running smoothly.
