Killing the carb cravings

Jenna

Recommended Posts

Heya,

so as of late ive been experimenting with a slightly higher fat intake.. trying to stick with polyunsaturated fats and omega 3's etc the good fats to stop my sugar cravings. I find that if i have carbs in the morning even if its plan oats i crave carbs all day so ive gone to eggs and tuna in the morning and having almonds for a snack and it seems to be stopping me from craving.

Anyone got any thoughts or tried something similar..

  • 2 weeks later...

I read somewhere recently (so helpful I know), that starting your day with something savoury means you're less likely to crave sugar during the day, so you're onto something there :)

I try to start most days with eggs but some mornings I just can't stand the thought of them :?

I also try my best to stick to a Primal/Paleo eating plan, so it means higher fat with less grainy carbs - most of my carbs come from starchy veg etc. Seems to work when I do it properly..

The paleo lifestyle is great. But, it took me 3 weeks to stop craving bread and crap like that. I did it full tilt and loved it.

I slowly reintroduced bread. lol. But have kept the body fat % low.

How long have you been restricting carbs?

I started about October last year, it was awesome. My abs said wassup and I felt good too.

Then New Years hit, I gorged on junk and have been off an on since then

I found as well that you -really- have to keep the fat levels up if you cut grains..and I find that hard to do because I still have some of the low fat diet everything mentality that some nutritionists have spoon fed me. And if you're low carb and low fat, you're pretty much fucked

Another alternative is cycling your carbs - giving yourself 2 low, 2 medium and 2 high days. Has worked well for me in the past, I still have enough energy and don't crave as these are fulfilled during high days yet still keep some of the fat off by reducing carbs on low days.

I did full paleo for ages and found it real easy to stick to and not cheat as when you're caining the pro and fat I didn't even crave carbs at all. but I found it hard to gain muscle without any carbs at all.

So I modified it and basically do paleo but put fast release carbs pre and post workout and find that I don't crave because in my mind it is a "rule" that this is the only time I eat carbs and my other meals I just don't eat them. So find it pretty easy.

Strength is only slightly affected because I do have some carbs before training but I do find that my recovery is shit on this and I get real bad DOMs

I find it hard to do higher voume on this diet but find it works perfectly with Push Legs Pull Legs

I also do either one 6h refeed or two 3h refeeds a week, id do the two a week if I was trying to bulk and one if I was trying to cut. Once you've got passed the yummness of it they do make you feel like death (so after like one hour of the feed) Total metabolic abuse tbh.

I actually had more energy. srs. I have gone back to bread as I can't always get to teh fridge at work, so sandwiches are a lazy option. convenience sucks. But I am still in decent shape.

After the 3 week mark I felt better than my previous self. The slow change back to grains has meant feeling less that optimum (when comparing to how it felt on paleo 100%), but I am still feeling better than when I was a non trainer who didn't think about what went in my mouth.

For paleo, I find the wok is the best tool ever. I cook at home over half the week (wife the rest) and I always make it paleo. So, I am still doing it most of the time, which at the end of the day I feel is a good choice.
