Associate Health Minister Peter Dunne has announced a common ingredient in party pills is being banned and should be off the market in early April.

The Temporary Class Drug Notice has been placed on DMAA (1,3-dimethylamylamine), which will be the 21st substance banned under last year’s drug law amendments.

Mr Dunne says DMAA, which has been linked to increased blood pressure, headaches and vomiting, is “the first substance other than a synthetic cannabinoid to be banned using the temporary notices”.

“I think this decision demonstrates the wider use of Temporary Class Drug Notices to protect the health and well being of New Zealanders… it is not just about party pills and synthetic cannabis.”

The notice means that all products containing DMAA will effectively be banned, and must be removed from shelves and no longer sold over the internet in New Zealand from April 9.

Banning substances rather than individual projects means Government avoid “chasing around after individual products in a never-ending game of catch-up,” Mr Dunne says.

“It is proving to be very effective legislation and has virtually completely nailed the synthetic cannabis industry.”

Yeah I'd kinda hoped they'd just bring in some restrictions. Pity Peter Dunne doesn't know shit about shit when it comes to shit. Can't say I know of any major issues with DMAA in NZ until BZP was banned. The dance party boys will just move onto some other chemical causing the same old problems until that gets banned.

Intredasting....that a class action has been filed claiming that DMAA isn't a natural substance and is therefore not a dietary supplement. No findings on it, just a class action filed prolly by some disgruntled user so not to be taken as true (unless you've also been doing your own research).

They tested the wrong stuff on purpose so that they would get a negative result. An example of skewed testing would be Androstenedione which is naturally occurring in the Pollen of scotch pine trees. A company could say it wasn't naturally occurring in pine pollen and then do testing on norfolk pine pollen instead of scotch pine pollen to reinforce their case.

"Methylhexaneamine, also referred to as 1,3-dimethylamylamine (and by the trademark Geranamine), is a nutritional supplement ingredient that is marketed in diet and energy products. It made its entry into the supplement market in 2005 after the discovery of literature published in China that demonstrated it to be present in Geranium Oil (at least the variety of Geranium Oil produced in that region of China)."

The sad truth is with "awesome" new law, as soon as a replacement comes into view of Mr Dunne it will be banned. You can't make your heart beat faster and the mind bend without affecting physiology (otherwise you wouldn't be 'high') so there's nothing that can escape this law....except alcohol, coffee, and cigarettes maybe.

I would alomost guarantee that if Kava became the new party drug of choice it would be banned.

If nutmeg came back as way to get high they would prolly considere all options of doing the same thing, banned.

They will never consider items they already tax heavily or things that politicians have already declared acceptable "highs". Under a democratic system the people don't get to choose, we get to choose the people who will choose for us.

its awesome man, and for $35 for so many servings IMO its truly epic.

lucky for me i don't have a high tolerance so i don't even have to take much (1 small serv sorts me) to get sweaty and focused (pwos are my only source of caffeine etc.). YMMV but for example with noxplode 2.0, i only need to take half a scoop of that stuff to get me going - 1 scoop and ill still be crazy the next day
