It's like this,

this whole aesthetics idealogy is just to make novice lifters and/or people who dunno wtf they're up to feel apart of something... Like they've reached some pinacle and is a reason to be proud of achieving f*ck all...

Let's be honest, they all want more muscle they all want to be bigger and stronger... To settle for being average like most of the ppl in that group, doesn't make sense to me... "I don't wanna be big, I wanna be aesthetic" f*ck off! U just can't put on any decent muscle because your training and nutrition is shit so u say your aesthetics to stroke your own ego.

Also what is aesthetic... Everyone on that nza page thinks they are aesthetic...

Aesthetic = look good in photos, shit in real life... Mediocre aspirations.

when will they learn, abs on a skinny kid are like big teddies on a fat woman

I'd like to think novice lifters and/or people who dunno wtf they're up to could feel like they are part of something on this site too - whether their goal is to be huge or not. 8)

Surely if it gets people into lifting, it's a good thing? Think of the aesthetics crew simply as bodybuilders who haven't been converted yet.

As for checking yourself in the mirror - I've seen big guys preening themselves who are just as annoying as the small guys! We all do it, of course - it's just a question of how. A quick and subtle flex is fine, but when it's done to seek attention, it doesn't matter what size you are.

It's seems as though there is alota hate towards this aesthetics 'movement' (if we can call it that).

I'm putting it down to a few reasons;

1. Ya'll are just plain jealous that they have abs etc. and use them to pull fanny.

2. Ya'll are just jelly, because looking 'aesthetic' is more socially acceptable.

Seriously, who cares? I'd much rather be in a society with skinny guys showing off their abs than an obese one.

Heaven forbid somebody uses a gym that doesn't have the same goals as you.

Why is that anytime somebody criticizes anyone else these days it's called 'hate' or they must be jealous? There are far more reasons for not liking people than jealousy.

What happened to just thinking someone is a dick?

I think considering this is a bodybuilding forum, it's more likely that people that have been at this for years just shake their heads at beginners in their own unique brand of uniform (pixie haircut, singlets that don't cover anything, and little short shorts) showboating at 70kg. It used to be that beginners would be pretty humble in the gym until they'd made changes and earned some respect.

To be fair, there have always been guys parading around like Pseudonym says, it's probably just more noticeable when there's a (I'm hesitant to say) 'movement' that's caught on, perhaps just a sign of the times with social media etc.

That being said, if it is just a fad for teenagers/guys in their early twenties, it'll pass like anything else, if they love it they'll likely transition into bodybuilding or whatever else.

As far as my opinion goes, so long as there aren't a group of guys socializing around gear I want to use, or curling in all the squat racks, I don't really give a shit.

Repping the Aesthetics crew right there ^^^^^^

No one is jealous, its the fact skinny little weasels jump in front of the mirror posing every 5 secs, lifting up their shirts to check out their abs(which they only have because they weigh 60kg) and generally walking around like they are hot shit that gets on peoples nerves.

p.s. tell me how they "pull fanny" in the clubs when they don't get to show off their abs every 2 secs, and look like every other guy out their that doesn't lift.

I'm not repping them at all. I just couldn't care less if somebody is standing by a mirror flexing at 60kg.

And to be fair, I honestly don't know who I'd rather look like; them or the chubby guy who says he lifts but seems to be on an all year round bulk.

Haha I'll tell ya why they score fanny - because they have massive ego's (even I won't argue with that). A bit of confidence goes a long way with women, if they have in the gym they're definitely gonna have it in a club....(to be honest, I wasn't that srs with the comment about pulling fanny).

2. Ya'll are just jelly, because looking 'aesthetic' is more socially acceptable.

Explain how I'm wrong? In the wider community, bodybuilding is often looked on as a weird sport and judged.

'aesthetics' is the first taste that most bodybuilding get of that insatiable drive to get bigger

Well put.

I think we forget how people start out. Not too many immediately want to look like Ronnie Coleman. For most, it's "I just want to be a bit leaner, with maybe 5kg more muscle."

Then they get there and say, "Maybe another 5kg..."

And another.

And another.

And at that point, they have to accept they're bodybuilding.

At the end of the day it's been a brilliant marketing campaign wouldn't you say? NZ aethetics set up in Hamilton by a guy who owns a supplement store, gets a few guys who have juiced all arms and abs to "rep" at rythym and vines and instant attention. Very easy to convince 17-21 males that you can look like this from superpump and protein. Someone's made some money
