Wrist measurement frame size thingy

Was hearing a bit of this the other day. The whole thing where you measure (or check how your index/thumb meet around your wrist) your wrist circumference to calculate whether you have a endo, meso, or ecto frame.

Was wondering how this can be accurate as in some weight estimations for people trying to lose weight, they tend to use this along with bmi to determine your ideal weight. Meaning if you have an ecto frame according to your wrist measurements, they tend to add about 10% to your ideal weight.

My question is, how can this be accurate. If a person is obese, surely their wrists are thicker as well? I've seen some big ladies with massive wrists in my life.

I think it's BS.

Before I started hitting the gym, my fingers could touch around my wrist. I have so far gained 17 kg from that time and they are about 2 cm's apart now.

Tells me it is BS.

Not really what I was getting at.

If your wrist circumference has grown 2 cm's then either you hit puberty or its fat.....

Exactly yes, it should probably just be fat, as I know very well that all those kilos I picked up is alot of fat. This is my point with overweight people. Obese people have much thicker (Fat) wrists than normal weight people normally.

I'm probably exaggerating a little with the 2 cm's, but my wrists are definitely a little wider than what they were. I'm just thinking if I had to pick up 50 kilos now, and move from 70 odd kilos to 120 odd kilos (Not exercising, just gorging and getting fat), surely my wrists are going to be much wider.

Sorry for the double post. But this is probably not that important. It just seems to me that the medical profession is looking for all sorts of excuses to not have to tell people that they are overweight and need to lose it.

Strange I find it. There is always something that gives them a bit of extra weight or some doctors just don't mention to their patients even that they are overweight and need to lose weight.

I remember the days when smoking was socially excepted. Few doctors ever advised their patients to quit smoking as they were probably smoking themselves, although they knew the harm it creates. And these days when an overweight person goes to the doc and they find out they have high blood pressure and other things associated with being overweight, they get prescribed meds, and not told to lose weight.

Even heard some docs telling their patients that the cause of their blood pressure is not their weight. I mean seriously, admittedly some people have high blood pressure, whether it be due to family genetics or whatever, but surely being a healthy weight should at least help a little to control it.

I think this has some merit. I'm a classic Ecto and I have tiny girls wrists. I have muscle in my forearm though (deadlifts) and during my last bulk Iwas at 20% bf and now I'm down to ~10% bf and that whole time my wrists never changed. Granted, severly obese people or those predisposed to storing a lot of fat in their wrist would be affected, but surely these people are endomorphs anyway?

There are two ways to measure your wrist. You can do it quickly with your thumb and longest finger. Take your thumb and longest finger and wrap them around your other wrist. Do your fingers touch, overlap, or do you see a little gap between the tip of your thumb and your finger? If your fingers overlap then you have a small boned body. If your fingers touch each other then you have a medium boned body. Finally, if your fingers have a gap in between them then you have a large boned body.

This is accurate, it determines the entire skeletal frame size, note how the larger wrist size is 7.5 for a male, and it will give you a good indication of how big some people are: i.e Ryan Kennely 10.2 inch wrist, Andre the giant 12.4 inch wrist.

Also, If you have a wrist under 6.5 inches you wont be able to build an arm over 17 inches.

Another way to determine bone mass is with a breadth measurement of the knee using a bone breadth tool.
