generally speaking, gaining muscle and burning fat are two different processes and involve different types of diet (eg. gain muscle: eat MORE than your basic metabolic rate... lose fat: eat LESS than your BMR or at least AT the BMR). whether or not you should go on a cut or bulk depends on how much fat you already have on your body.

cardio won't burn muscle just like that, also depends on diet.. if you dont get enough protein in & eat way too little then yes you will definitely burn muscle.

doing weight training is usually a nice (and more fun) alternative to cardio for the fat loss and will help set you up so that once youve lost the fat, you can continue with the weights, just change diet slightly and go right on with muscle building. if you want to fit cardio and weights in same session then do the weights first followed by cardio so that you can hit the weights with your maximum intensity.

also scooby is pretty good man, along with that you may also be interested in videos from scottherman (shows workout form) , luimarco (fitness/diet discussion), twinmuscleworkout/hodgetwins (all of the above + great sense of humour)

I advise the complete package and by that I mean, Weights, cardio and diet at this stage whether or not cardio is going to be catabolic isn't of real concern to you, in fact you want it to be catabolic to burn the fat away. High intensity interval training is going to be the quickest way to do it. So long as you are lifting hard and eating properly, cardio isn't going to significantly impact upon your ability to build muscle. If anything it is going to help.

As a side note, we all start somewhere, people aren't going to judge you for being fat, they applaud the effort it takes to get in shape because we've all been there before to varying extents.

good on you mate, cardio is good for you will get your heart pumping and the weight will fall off, start easy and dont push it to hard or you wont enjoy it, you will see results in yourself first and this will keep you keen to improve even more, will be good to see the progress pics.good luck

number one piece of advise (sure this goes for everyone starting out) dont go too hard too soon! you'll just get sore, maybe injure yourself and become totally demotivated by the experiance. build some confidence before you build those muscles mate.

just in my experiance.

I knew as soon as I read the title you were talking about "the Scooby guy" :pfft:

I don't agree with some of his stuff I've seen - although admittedly I haven't watched a huge amount of his vids. But in general he appears to gives relatively safe advice.

What Riccardo posted up above is good oil
