Correct side tricep pose

not sure if this is the right place for this but meh

Trying to get my side tricep pose down pact, i think it will end up being one of my strongest poses since i have good delt/arm developement.

Any tips? should i be pulling my delt further back and down? i feel like my traps don't look the best..

you should always pose from your feet up. your legs don't look engaged.

yeah dead right. i've never learnt to pose in the BBing sense properly. Theres a posing practice thing at a local gym here in town.. going to go and see what its all about.

I think i'm going to have a go @ this taranaki comp so i've got 3weeks to get posing fixed : /

do it, because it needs to be like second nature. and you'd be surprised at how fucked up 'gym' poses look on stage

I wouldn't be suprised, i've seen them in action.

hahahahah yeah i'll deffinitely get my posing sorted or i won't enter. not about to roll up and throw out zyzz & JR poses for the judges

Can depend on who you're standing next to. You are in a lineup called "comparisons", which means they are "comparing" you against the others...otherwise everyone would be a winner, they need a 1st, 2nd, 3rd...you get the point.

If you win, you're the best compared to the rest in your class.

If you stand next to a guy with a big chest (big not meaning big from the front but depth, from the side) then you'll need to lift your chest up more. In the pic you're scrunching downward, your chest has dropped. Bodybuilders should mostly always keep their chest up, high on stage.

Your obliques should also be squeezed (without scrunching downward too much, see above comment) they look halfway there but am sure you can pull out obliques and ribs better than that.

Small is right too.

Not just "tighten Legs", but you want the Hammy to be as big as possible (there's a trechnique to do this by sliding the front leg forward into position as you squeeze legs together, it flattens out the Hammy giving it a bigger side profile, and then relax your Hammy). You do this cos you're judged on appearance of size, and a tight Hammy is a small Hammy.

Oh and also squeeze the glutes without engaging the Hammy to keep it tight and also if you have any striated glutes they show off as well from the side.

And you flex your calf, face it towards the judges a bit.

Oh and learn to hold that pose and breathe too, and smile, look natural as if it's not difficult to hold the position for a minute or two.

Shoulder position looks fine.

I would forget about traps it's a side tricep pose and judges know traps can be brought out or hidden depending on the pose (front lat spread they all but disappear for most unless you have extremely high ones).

Alot to remember all at once, while on stage getting judged. Some people fall over trying to balance and squeeze muscles :-) ...practice.

Good on ya for giving it a go mate. Not just because I do it and others but just to experience something new in your life. You'll do well

Need to know which leg placement is sanctioned also - two different ways of showing. NZIFBB from memory you must have ankles together ...

... I prefer the split pose to show the large head of your calf ... and because my legs are longer than most so if I'm standing next to a shorter competitor its hard for them to blast me for a thickness comparison ...

Generally accept by fake NABBA and NABBA/WFF I believe ... please correct if Im wrong

Small hit the nail on the head - legs first when executing all poses - must lock the hips and glutes everytime as this achors your mid-section and will allow for a tighter looking waist. Upper body is struck at the end and with power [generally with a snap!] .. this means if you are not locked down from abs to foot you'll loosen up.

If you are serious, always pose in shorts. You have to get the legs right ... have spent up to an hour with competitors just striking legs because they don't have it sorted.

What do you do where flexibility (and a big set of glutes) makes it hard to lock hands when hitting side tri's? Will work on flexibility but having issues! Any suggestions?

Prolly the same thing someone does when they can't put on any decent size or are allergic to the rubber on dumbbells, give up competitve bodybuilding :pfft:

Srs, Mark Stewart used to tell me, if Ronnie Coleman can get his arm around the back of himself for a correct side tricep pose then....so can I.

Had a smilar issue and I use the monkey grip now, it works better than just holding onto a hand or fingers cause in practice that works, but on stage covered in tan it gets slippery and awkward.

Hmm big set of glutes....can you try grabbing your wrist which would mean your arm is above those mammoth muscles rather than going across or around them?

Also, some people think they have to hold tricep outward facing to the judges...you wanna slam the arm into your body so that the lats push the tricep head out flatter and therefore larger...then to show the judges you twist your body rather than your arm.

Just a few random thoughts here mate

LOL - my glute measurement when I was under 100kg was bigger than anyone in the local NPC team, including two 125-130kg props :pfft:

Just tried and can grab wrist (with a wee struggle) above glutes then slide hands downwards - might be the go!

Never had trouble with this in 2000, but haven't really posed properly since. Will practice and work on flexibility - should be sweet.

Fark, all that squatting?

Hey dunno how lean you are but maybe like situps...as you get leaner they get easier and that backfat disappears in the last few weeks. Awesome though to hear you're practising mate, sounds like a committment this year :-)

I'm thinking that it'll get easier as the mass wastes away LOL

Not a real committment, just going to assess after 10 weeks dieting and make a call then (currently at week 3).

Extracted from the NABBA/WFF Rules & Guidelines Aust & NZ

1.Side Triceps

The competitor will quarter turn to the side, again as instructed by the head judge. He will stand with his left or right side towards the judges & will place both arms behind his back. He can either interlock his fingers or grasp the front arm by the wrist with his rear hand. The front leg nearest the judges will be bent at the knee & will rest on the toes. The competitor will exert pressure against his front arm thereby causing the triceps muscle to contract. He will also raise the chest & contract the abdominals as well as the thighs & calves.

This version I personally like because it shows the tricep muscle head development. I would need to speak to our head judges but believe its not kosher in the compulsory round but gtg in your routine.
