Lunge Alternative

Hi everyone,

I've had knee problems since my early days and have been through about 4 surgeries, specifically the left knee. I found (after about 5 weeks of training) that the lunges are not playing well with my knee. I'm afraid I'm going to have to cut them out. I haven't had any issues yet with squat or deads, so all good there for now.

Question is, if I am already squating, dead-lifting and leg-curling for legs now, what is a good alternative for the lunges?

Cheers,

TG

Yea I've got knee & hip issues and lunges are out of the question most days for me too. You could try front squats? Or even try squatting with a very narrow or very wide stance? (ie try doing the opposite of how you would normally squat). Even if you're using a light weight the difference of exercise will be good for your lower body and may help your recovery.

noted.

On recovery..., that is a little out of the question I think. I've had my first surgery at age 12 and then 3 more over the years after that. Apparently I have abnormal knee's, lol. The knee cap is VERY loose and I guess not much I can do about that. Luckily it doesn't bother that much and seems to be fine with squats.

First surgery was to remove a piece of the Patella that broke off during long jump. Also had to sand down the knee-cap due to surface cracks etc.

Second was my lovely pitbull running into me from the front in the dark and breaking off another piece of patella that had to be sucked out with an atroscopy (or something like that)

Third was shortening of tendons and muscles on the outside of the leg to try and stabilize the kneecap a bit more and yet again to to a bit of a polish.

4th was just another atroscopy to suck out pieces. hehe

So all in all I've had about 15 years of no surgery, really don't want to mess it up again. hehe.
