swiming as cardio

what are peoples thoughts on this vs the cycle or running/power walking?

getting a bit bored with the same old, but I dont really have an idea what swiming would actually burn , or at what speed/distance you'd need to use?give you'd be considerably lighter in water?

This is a little builder to a challenge from a mate who wants to do the harbour swim.(damn ex comp swimmers)

I was doing swimming for cardio in winter - heated olympic pool under the gym I train at.

I would do 3 laps at a moderate pace & gun it on the forth lap - interval training in the pool.

I did 8 cycles of this at a time and it normally took around 20 mins.

It kept me in pretty good shape.

Now the weathers a bit warmer I get out of bed & use an ellpitical I've got in the spare room - too cold in winter :wink:
