Problem with squats

Started my legs workout after a long time ( got injured on the right leg). Te problem is i cant do squats now. I cannot bend m right leg to a certain degree. to makes matter worse i cant even kneel down due to the extreme pain in my right leg. i tried squatting with an empty bar and just fell on the ground due to my right leg failing. i know in order to build big legs you need to do squats but in my case its a complete no. would leg extensions, leg curls, leg press, lunges, stiffed legged deadlifts help to build good legs ?

You dont HAVE to do squats to build legs bro. You ask about lunges ? Can you still do these and leg press with heavy weights in th 6 -12 rep range.

Can you do half squats?

i just did leg press today. since i dont have to go that deep compare to squats, i was able to manage till 10 reps failure at 90kgs. legs were so sore after curls and extensions that failed on the first rep of lunges ( use to do lunges before the injury).

didnt tried half squats yet ..

What kind of rehabilitation have you done on your leg before starting training again? Sounds to me like you're rushing into it too soon, and trying to go too heavy.

basic stretchin excercises .. i tried to squats wit an empt bar ..failed ..but for leg press , i dont feel the pain on m knee , jus the usual soreness on quads ..

Try holding on to the Squat Rack frame with one arm and Squatting down using your natural line (without a bar on your back). If you can do that without pain then you might be okay and may only have flexibility issues....

So where exactly is the pain? Above the knee, below the knee or inside the joint? And what kind of pain ... ache, sharp and/or burning?

To add to this, what's your ROM like for your right leg? Is there a certain point past which it becomes painful?

Just stretching isn't rehabilitation mate, did you work with a physio? Should focus on slowly regaining full pain free ROM and then strengthen throughout that ROM (isometrics are great for this) before progressing onto any kind of heavy resistance program.

Stink about your leg mate. It can be frustrating when an injury holds you back. But good on ya for pushing on.

What actually happened to your leg? - eg. fall, broken leg, car crash etc

Agree with Opti, see a physio to see if anything can be done.

Agree with Olympia, you don't need squats to build your legs - you can use many exercises to build them up.

Also, have you thought about getting a personal trainer to help you out? Maybe you could work with someone in the initial stages to have them make a plan for you and then workout on your own when you're feeling comfortable.

Hey man,

Stink about the leg.I had 12 mnth rehab on a leg after 12 mnths in a cast. I started with slowly building range of movement cycle and walking started at 1 min add a min every week. Then started to strengthen around the area and increase flexibility by deeper movements etc. I'm not a physio but I won't rush into pushing yourself it'll make rehab longer and maybe effect your mobility in future. All the best

The pain i feel is inside the right knee cap, if i do a squat motion, i feel something inside is tearing up .. like a nerve or a muscle, the pain is not bearable at all ..

The ROM is reali bad. sometimes at work i need to go down on knees and clean up stuff, i just can kneel down on my right leg ..
