Bodybuildng and aging

I Declare War

Recommended Posts

I know a few bodybuilders who look much older than their actual age. What specifically do you guys think causes these guys to age the most?

I don't want to turn 30 and look in the mirror and see a 50 year old. Please help!

A thread on another board has inspired this, there's currently a thread about a bodybuilder who is 30 years old but he looks much older than his age. Only a few years ago he was quite a handsome young guy... now looks ugly as!

Are you under 30 bro? Shit you dont look it  . Stress on the body. Abuse of steroids to name a couple. A lot of guys dont look after their looks. Moisturizing etc . Not saying i use facial scrubs or moisturisers and the likes :shifty:

Cheeky bugger! I'm 28 in a few days... I hope you don't mean that... I've always looked a bit younger than I am (or so I've been told).

In many animals, it has been shown that individuals with higher levels of testosterone have a lower life expectancy.

With higher test levels, individuals were more aggressive/larger/displayed greater sexual signals etc.

This resulted in a greater individual fitness* at the expense of living shorter.

(*amount of successful offspring)

May be true for humans? May also explain why females have a greater average life expectancy than males.

It's like bodybuilding drugs are the fountain of youth in small dosages... but it's too hard to use them in small doses... they become the fountain of death!

I think Moe is a good exception.. he's 38 (or thereabouts) and looks not really any older than the average 38 year old... maybe even younger looking?

Others though, just turn to shit. The drug abusers it must be. The ones that do drugs like meth, cocaine, e, and drink heaps.

Nope, not good enough... you don't qualify to close this thread, young man.

water retention makes u look old i reckon. moonface = looking 5 years older

Yeah good point... also dehydration makes you look old.

I think the whole stress of preparing for shows is very stressful. I went to the NABBA-WFF show last year and saw that Mark Reid fella... his body looks amazing in real life, but his face looked sad and sick.. old looking (altho he's quite old isn't he?)... looked way too dehydrated.

Testosterone isn't an aging hormone that I am aware of...sure it declines with age but it's not like Insulin which is directly related to your expiry date here on earth! Yeah the more you secrete it the earlier you r likely to expire which might, might explain why hungry people live longer?

good article on Ted.com if u can find it about life extension and the FOXO gene, she talks about aging and insulin a little bit. Ted.com is the bomb anyway if u r into latest breakthroughs around the world.

I'd say a god haircut and some sunshine makes me look younger sometimes :-)

Hugh Willis was on a doco a fair while ago about aging (for those who don't remember Hugh was a NZ BBer nicknamed Huge Willis for a reason) talking about his botox use. I'm sure he said something like why have a million dollar body & a ten cent face!

Being an older (than most here) guy I agree with him, but I'm not quite at the botox & dermal fillers stage yet! If I was in sales or something I probably would be!

Protection from UV is important as is not doing things like smoking as it can break down elastin (from memory) leading to aging signs like wrinkles etc. When I used to go sun bedding I would always cover my face, nowadays I completely flag sunbeds and just spray tan. Then I wear SPF 3million when I'm out in the sun. A good moisturiser with a sunscreen is a good investment for daily use guys!

Gear probably has a positive impact on youthfulness at low doses, but the bloated look definitely makes people look fat & old! HGH is apparently a bit of an elixir of use and helps skin apparently?

Metrosexual FTW! LOL :pfft: :pfft:

Excessive insulin causes cell damage, as does forced eating :D

If you stuff your face constantly it has been shown to wear your body down.

If somebody can please post a pic of Dave Pasanella the deceased powerlifter it will shock you, he looks 50 but is 26 in the pics.

Androgens have been shown to wear the body down but I cant varify this?

Mike Mattazaro or however you say his name was eating 4 kilos of red meat a day and 16 cans of tuna in apple juice as well as a lot of other stuff and he said by the time he was 23 he looked over 30 and said it was from all the food
