My Pre Workout Rant

Hi all,

Pre workouts have exploded in the gym over the last 24 months just about everytime I turn around theres a young bloke holding a little tub of some new nuclear kick starting powder. I decided to jump on board and do some experimenting, And would like to role over a few of the products with some of the effects Ive experienced:

N.O Explode - Woke me up, ok energy / Restless nights sleep,

1MR - Fast onset of focus / little bit jittery, 40min before crash,

Curse - Quick energy and focus / Beta tingle, linear crash,

Code Red - Good energy first thing in the morn, Bit $$$,

Superpump 250 - Fast onset of energy, Jittery, restless nights sleep,

Superpump Max - ^^ as above

Shock Thearpy - Good onset and steady realese of energy, tastes like shit!

Im sure there was another couple but I cant remember.

As far as pumps go, TBH there really isnt a huge amount of difference from being on or off Pre Workouts.

In 2006 a mate (Not Dave from the freezing works) ordered some GAKIC powder and it was the most discuting supp Ive ever tried. That tub got passed around just about every member of the gym. Has anyone else tried that shit?

*edit* jack3d - Onset of focus but crash about 40 mins post workout.

Plasmajet - Didnt get much from this TBH - 10 caps that can repeat and taste vial.

What about nutratech rage? Have you tried that?

I have tried a few of the above and IMHO a good strong black coffee does the trick. Sure no beta tingles but sweet energy right thru the workout and no post workout crash.

Yes, coffee seems popular from the old time lifters I talk to they also say nodoz tabs.

When will some of you learn that all these supps have mostly 2 things in common. DMAA & Caffiene and loads of it. I think the only product not containing DMAA is Superpump. Stop wasting money and do what the old timers do, use no dose or a good expresso coffe before working out.

I also happen to know how much it cost for these companies to manufacture these products. All i can say is you guys are makin these companies filthy rich.

For some people coffee has little to no effect at all, especially people that drink many cups a day. You can say it all you like but these pre-workout supps actually do work a lot better than caffeine for some.

I know my old man can drink a large coffee then go to sleep 10mins later, yet I have a mate that can't drink coffee after about 5 because it keeps him up all night. Not everyone has the same tolerance levels.

Ok... 2 questions: 1) Importing "pure white powder" - Not likely to cause problems with customs? 2) Anyone tried this and can give positive/negative feedback? Not a fan of coffee and No-Doz looks like it can get expensive in a hurry.

LOL @ just take caffeine. Doesnt do f*ck all for me, especially in the form of a coffee! Never used to drink coffee/caffeine and back then I could take 3x200mg caffeine caps & it wouldn't do shit. Long term abuse of certain a class stims may have caused this though :pfft:

Dont mind these DMAA mixes though, don't use them often. Occasionally before workouts but mainly for sports. Don't "crash" either.

Well given that i read an article about NZ recreational drug use compared to other countries and the percentage of people doing it it no wonder some are immune to coffee or other supplemental type stimms. Just sayin.

Obviously my previous statement didnt include everyone but i was talking about a minority or majority whichever way. I myself dont use pre workouts and i too am immune to coffee or caffiene. I can drink 2 heaped teaspoons in one cup of coffee and i will be asleep in 5 min and no dose i can take like M&M's and nothing. It took 5 scoops of jacked once and all i got was the tingle from the Beta. You right Pyro everyone is different.

Good Lord, beleive o not i know russion athletes that use to have sex or jerked of before a hard training session and accourding to them it works. So hey do what you need to do to get yourself ready for a big session but as i said considering what these guys put in their supplements and the price you end up paying for it does not justify the rewards, for me anyway.

As for importing "white powder" why dont you do it and tell us how you got on. :pfft:

I prefer the intra training jerk off myself. On a serious note i get a good buzz from superpump. Always have yet i have stuff all reaction to the likes of Jacked, Sizeon max performance is the worst by far for my body. Relentless shits that last up to 5 hours and epic lower back pain.

Is this not true for any industry though? I know in mine it costs me about 10-15% of what the public pay.

serious question.

Never had a day when you have been flat our at work come home and just can't be fucked working out, yet know you should. Perfect time for a pre-workout supp. Which is about the only time I ever use one. Good for a kick in the ass when you have 0 motivation.

I know the list at the top of the post makes it look like went out brought all the shit just to keep up with the Joneses, But TBH It was more like a comunal sharing experiment. ie If someone in the gym got something new we all had a try and considering we varied in age from 18 - 43 its was a cool experiment.

Pyro explained it bang on when he was talking about those shit days when a plate seems to weight twice as much and you just cant be fucked!!!!. I now tend to Stay away from coffee and most stims keep a little tub of Pre W stashed away and just hit it when I have one of those "C@#T DAYS" that seem to roll around on leg day lol :roll: :roll:

What about just using arginine/creatine/BCAAs etc to get good pumps in the gym...

I find caffeine really messes with me anyway! I dont think the pre workouts make we wanna train any more its just cos youknow youve taken this expensive product might aswell go workout now.... same if you used other supps b4 workout???

I get my pre/post work out fix from Marijuana. It keeps me focused, in the zone, stops me wasting time on chatter, and looking around at what every other person is lifting. When I'm driving iron you could say I am in 'my own little world'. No accidents to date.

A habit learnt from my polish brothers, each to his own I say.

Interesting on the pre-workout session there mate.

Know a couple of others who do it and they both rave about how intense and focused their workouts are but the safety factor has always worried me. Good to hear ya haven't had any accidents!

Certainly didnt work for me, spent more time in the sauna after which it was straight to the roast shop :pfft:

DMAA for moderator, I like the stuff. Caffiene is second best choice.

In terms of pump, something with citrulline malate and BCAAs is cool, add some glucose (creatine if your into that) and you got magic, no matter the sport.

Also starting experimenting with using taurine last year, although anecdotal, i felt a difference there.

I tried some. It came as a sample from bodybuilding.co.nz

I enjoyed it. I hated pre-workout supps since I tried one from Nutrabolics a couple of years ago that hade me spining out in a corner of the gym. Couldn't lift as was too spaced. Better for a trance rave imo.

Rage was clear and I was raging for sure. Sweated like a criminal though. Second dose was at 830pm, and too late in the day imo. Was restless in bed. But that is true of them all.
