BMI a measure of Body Fat to height and weight ? Since when did BMI take Body Fat into account ? :?

Some guru he is..

Guess I must be a fat ass bastard if it now takes Body Fat into account, given that last time i checked BMI tells me I'm Grade 2 Obese and will die in the next 5-10 years from health related issues :pfft:

Anyone else to join me on the quest for doubling their starting BMI ?

What's the bet that someone like Markus Ruhl's onstage BMI is like 45

He will drop dead on stage due to health reasons and carrying too much Body Fat apparently.. I honestly hate BMI..

They constantly try pushing it onto us and clients at the gyms, it's bullshit..

And when people ask me about BMI and what my BMI is I tell them that I'm even more obese than them and they see that it is a majorly flawed system

Low BMI for extra marks? wtf?

I want to know that people are leaving school with marks based on their intelligence in their chosen areas, not if they are low BMI students.

As mentioned, the BMI is a crock.

BMI is worthless to anybody with muscle on them (i.e. most who visit these forums).

To change the direction of the thread slightly; what if the criteria was changed....?....to say something like a bodyfat test? or basic fitness/strength tests? Would you be for/against the idea of grading students by any other physical means?

And altering their academic grades because of it, no. As another form of evaluation, yes. I don't believe they should be rewarded for exceptional physiques/strength/fitness (popularity and sporting prowess would be reward enough for most) but there should be a minimum level to meet. If not met, students must work towards achieving those minimum levels.

I know the whole "its my body and I'll do what I want with it" comes into play, and that's fine once they've left school. But instituting an expectation of health and fitness would hopefully keep them from becoming unhealthy, unfit, drains on the economy who receive the sickness benefit because they can barely walk, or have diabetes before the age of 20 through no fault but their own.

Agreed.

Definitely agree with this, that is why some people are Academics and some people are Physical, be it there a few people who are both but making the kids who are good at Physical look like they are better Academically just because they are superior at sport or whatever is unfair. The kids who are Academics don't get made to look any better on the sport field because they aced their Chemistry paper so why should the Physical kids get better treatment ?

Having just finished High School year before last I can definitely attest to there needing to be some kind of positivity placed on looking after yourself and being healthy as the state of quite a few of the kids I went to school with was not very impressive at best (I went to two different high schools btw so even greater sample size) and this was even before I knew the first thing or became overly interested in nutrition for health or building an impressive physique and I already knew these kids were off to a bad start..

Can't see this helping too much, other than embarrassing already obese kids even more and lowering their self esteem. Hey kid your grades dropped because you're a fat ass. Stated above the BMI is a joke, any athletes with muscle will be put into the obese category and be downgraded.

Something does need to change in schools, but the majority of the problem is at home and what the parents are feeding their kids. How often do you hear the same old crap oh its in my genes my whole family's big they always have been, then use it as an excuse to eat shit all day. Annoys the hell out of me when watching those shows on the morbidly obese people the ones so big they need the walls cut down to get out of their house to have surgery, then after the surgery still laying in the hospital bed you see their partners / family bringing in burgers and chips for them to eat.
