Keto to Paleo

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, well ive been on a Keto type diet for around four months now lost around 15 kgs. Lately however the loss has stalled out. I am maintaining at 105 however im still looking at another 5kg loss at least. Im thinking of going to a Paleo style, however i need some help in what i can and cannot eat. Are fruits and kumara allowed on the Paleo?

Reason for moving from stricts Keto to Paleo is i feel real flat alot of the time now, and i dont like the big yoyo i get from a day off or refeed. One refeed i blew up 4kgs!!! I am hoping that if i change to a Paleo style i can bypass that yoyo, my body wont be depleted and hold all the water and what ever i get from a refeed. Any help will be apreciated.

I've never tried the Paleo diet, but I have done the Anabolic diet, which is similar in many ways. I liked it a lot, and don't recall feeling particularly flat on it. Basically you don't go so deeply into ketosis, and refeed with carbs every weekend. I tried to avoid gluten-based carbs (bread, pasta, etc) because after not eating them regularly, they made me feel bloated and gassy when I did eat them. Other carbs were fine though.

Regardless of what diet you're following, if you've stalled, you probably need to reduce the calories a bit further.

Thanks mate

Yea I better have a look at macros and all that too i think i wasnt too worried about macros in the past 4 months just as long as i was eating protien at every meal with green veges didnt really keep a check on calories at all.

Hopefully if i do this ill get to my target sooner rather then later.

Still anyone know if i can eat fruit on a Paleo type eating plan???

Sometimes when I stall too much I have a week of high-ish cals then go back to lowering it...for me it does the trick and it's a good change esp when eating low cals for a long time

Hi hi

I eat Paleo.. well about 80/20 at the moment because I'm enjoying chocolate.

Fruit and kumara are fine, BUT if you are wanting to lose some weight fast it's advised to cut the fruit, and starch.

I find the Primal Blueprint pyramid a pretty sweet guideline of what to eat more/less of.

Any other questions hit me up, been researching this HARD.

When I was doing paleo 100%, and changed nothing else in my lifestyle, I started seeing my abs after about 2 months. Fruit is ok, but you must be careful due to the sugars they contain. Veges, eggs and meat, veges, eggs and meat. Stirfry is the most obvious. No more processed foods etc

I now do paleo about 50/50 (but still avoid potato) and have noticed the abs starting to hide away again.

I found myself feeling 'fresher' than I used to.

The reason I am not on it full time now is I started to get anal on it and it was getting out of control at home. I was a food nazi. the 50/50 is all good though. Back on bread. lol

For the op and other interested in a look, here is a link of a pdf I uploaded. It is a valid link until boxing day.

This is my own upload of the file. Safe to download.

I have been doing it half assed for 2 months and abs are *there* when I look in the mirror now (yay).

I still eat potato though, potato whore right here. I -am- cutting down. Slowly.

Cheers for the link too, it can be too easy to stick to boring old meat+veg, so finding ways to spice dishes up is awesome.

Aside from being anal about food, did you enjoy Paleo? I'm struggling big time letting go of my chocolate and coke zero.

I enjoy it. I enjoy cooking, so have found different ways to make it work for everyone here at home. I found giving up potatoes such an easy thing to do, eating wise. Finding alternatives (because the staple potato was missing) was the challenge.

The meals start to take on a restaurant appearance, which is all good :)

Hey guys thanks ay

So if im looking at macros on a Paleo type eating plan what would it look like. I mean when i was doin keto it was pretty much Steak and beans, Chicken and broccoli with mayo and/or nuts for the fat, what should a typical Paleo meal look like?

Im the same as most people my carb eating was out of hand or better put my proceced food eaating was out of control! Bread Nooedles Pasta was with every meal, however i found going cold turkey real easy. I just want to be able to eat fruit and maybe some kumara within the parameters of Paleo.

I havnt seen my abs since i was 19 haha always been a mass guy but that mass was always fat lol.

If you go paleo, going shopping is easy. You go to Pac n Save (for example) and go around the outside. Veges, meats, eggs etc. Forget the inner aisle demons: cereals, pastas, chippies, breads etc...

I make my way to the canned meats though. and hygiene stuff of course (inb4 caveman no-toilet paper)

Download my link a few posts back, and have a look at what it could look like.

I am not so strict now, but it does work a treat. It isnt a magic diet, but a lifestyle aimed at reducing processed (modern) foods and starch.

  • 3 months later...

Basically it s mainly lots of meat and veges.

I found meat and nut breakfast was so helpful when I was starting out.

Just think about being a nomadic cave man and what they would/wouldnt eat. You can't cultivate anything its just what you would find growing wild/hunt.

So no dairy or grains etcetc

Theres paleo then theres like poliquin fuelled paleo which would say that fruit/kumera/penuts/plastic tupperwear/makeup and many many other things should be avoided. No carb up till you are under 10% and definiately not refeeds. Maybe one cheat meal once per week. And in terms of macros he would say "Don't count calories but calories still count"

It just depends what kind of version of paleo you follow and how you want to plan it into bodybuilding diet/training.

FYI I am not a poliquin fanboy we have a love/hate relationship

true. there seems to be different levels of insanity (like religious fundamentalism) regarding paleo.

I eat all types of nuts, and do kumera. no potato though, unless I am falling from grace and do a drive through (TWL styles)

I recommend people take a look at it, and just pull some recipe ideas from it that you can start including as alternatives to the mundane meat and 3 vege shit we were raised on.

Dairy kills me so I enjoy that part. Though I have started using that lactose free one, to varied success :?
