Working Out at home

Jenna

Recommended Posts

hey all,

so after some great training i was making some pretty good progress but currently my situation has changed.. im now living rural with not a gym in site.. ive taken to doing more body weight exercises such as variations of squats, lunges, press ups, pulls ups ( in a kids play ground), dips, plyometrics etc and just cause im going alittle crazy being out here im running like mad man.

my question is, am i going to end up just doing a lot of toning instead of building up my muscles with ONLY doing body weight exercises.

and has anyone else got any at home exercises i could add in..

thanks Jenna

there is no such thing as toning. there is building muscle and burning fat or a combination or both at the same time.

You can still make good progress using only body weight exercises, and if you reach the point where you want your desired rep rage using only bodyweight to be lower just put on a back pack with some form of weight in it or buy a weighted vest.

I've been working out at home for about 5 or 6 years. All I have owned for the most part is a bar with about 150kg of assorted plates purchased on trademe over the years and some db's. I finally got a flat bench which I use for db press, and it's great to lay the bar on for loading up for zercher squats (given I dont have a rack so squatting has always been low weight high rep for me).

I'd suggest watching a wide range of bodyweight/playground training type videos to get some more ideas. A few things to add in off the top of my head would be; Handstand Push ups, Dragon Flags, Supine Rows, Muscle Ups and Pistol Squats. You could also get milk bottles and fill them with water or sand, grab a sack and fill that with sand and bear hug it during squats and lunges etc. Fill a backpack with them for push ups and pull ups.

im running like mad man.

Also, stop running and SPRINT!

I workout from home and have a bench and barbell + weights. You can do all the body weight exercises but just add a small amount of weight to either a weight belt or in a back pack for added resistance.

If you get a barbell and weights there is plenty you can do.

hey all

thanks for the great feed back...

i thought that higher rep rangers with lower weights lead to toning??

buy dumbells, a barbell and a bench...whatever. im sure you can afford it. a lot of muscles are pretty hard to hit with only bodyweight excercises
well ive just finished my degree... ive had to crawl out of the pretty student world back in dunz to now living back on the farm in the middle of no where ,cause im stilll yet to find a job so for now the playground will have to do...

sounds like a good plan and those are some crazy exercises there i like \:D/ .. i like running but its not helping with my over all goal.

Goal is to create more balance.. ie building up pretty much my whole upper body and trimming down the lower half.. i wont to do another bb comp. running is keeping the lower half looking good but i think im going through to many cal's with the running thou as all my upper body measurements are decreasing.

Body weight exercises and trainings are fine, yes you can build muscle doing only that. You just change incline/decline of your body to add/minus resistance.

Probably in this forum is the wrong place to ask about bodyweight exercises and routines and wouldn't be too popular. It's totally different to training in a gym with weights. And most guys who lift heavy in the gym couldn't do a handstand shoulder press up against a wall to save themselves let alone a proper set.

Use google and YouTube to get ideas quickly.

Less than $30 a week for a gym membership isn't hard to find if you make it a priority.

what is toning? if you are referring to loosing fat that is about your diet not your rep range in the gym.

heya all

money isnt the problem if i had a gym to go to i would, the closest gym to me at the moment is about an hour and ahalf away.

or just make weights using concrete and pipe.. you must be able to cough up $20 for some cement. or just use a crowbar or whatever else you have lying around your farm

ha! i like this idea will post up some pics of any creations i get going

you could do something like p90x I guess Jenna

just researched this.. looks pretty interesting.. will be looking in to it!

thanks again for the ideas... am keen as to see if i can build me a good bar \:D/
