That was as long as a powerlifting event!

and

just as enjoyable. The more i get involved with body builders and powerlifters the more alike I realise we are. Dedication, commitment, nutrition (srs ) support and fellowship are words that spring to mind. I have a vision where both will one day meet and powerlifters provide the 1/2 time entertainment or similar. Powerlifting events run in this style of show too would be epic!

Further more to that little deviation I would like to congratulate the organisers on a great venue, smooth operation, fantastic atmosphere, great MCs, great sponsor support, number of athletes...many many postitives - outstanding!

Contestants - WOW!

I have only really been to a few shows (and non like this) in the past so i'm no expert on the subject but after watching a few classes go through and who wins its pretty easy to start picking likely outcomes. Very few athletes fell below the exceptional standard set by the majority.

There were some real highlights for Bar-belle and I.

Over the past few months Optimass and I have been embarking on various projects together - re-comping a fat powerlifter (me) and getting Opti back on stage along with getting CAPO established in NZ and getting the 1st National event underway and successfully completed.

It was with a great deal of pride and satisfaction to see our mate up there on stage using the very last of his reserves and looking so good after a 28kg drop in body weight and a 10 year break from the competitive side of the sport! Outstanding bro

Nate was in a very tough class but mate you can hold your head up high and proud. You came in looking great! your 3rd place was like a 1st in another class considering the monsters you were up against.

Congrats to them too. Impressive.

Soundsgood - maaaate. The crowd didnt go quiet cos of your performance bro it was cos your legs are SIK! Many of the comments around where we were were of shock in awe. Your condition was much better than the last photos I saw from the Waikato show(?) Question...How on earth do you cut something so big? Outstanding mate.

Genetic Freak...man you looked big bro and came in ripped! Very hard to call your class. Well done man

Peachy you looked great in everything you came out in and your lovely personality shone through 10/10 xx

It was also good to finally meet Pseudonym and catch up with Android and a few other mates and we're sorry we had to split early and not see the very end.

....It probably saved me $400 and a wicked hangover though

Most excellent show, most excellent caliber of athlete and all in a great venue - outstanding

Great pics Pseudo!

I wasnt able to attend this year but the stage and venue looks great, just the right mix of light and shadow to show the best of the competitors definition.Definatley better to have a fully windowless room like this one where the lighting can be controlled artifically rather than a daytime show in a room with alot of natural lighting where natural lighting can wash out the competitors.

Some really great bodies on show,

Steve looks insane with those ridiculous hanging hammies, so much future ahead for a guy that young, just depends on where he wants to take it I suppose.

Also thought Aron Noble looked great in the WFF class 4 Athletic, Really sharp as always!

Congrats to everyone that competed, 2 more weekends to go and the local season is at an end and we can all go enjoy a BBQ and beer!

Optimass, after 10 years away from the stage that was one hell of a return. Personally I had you 3rd mate but yeah judges see different things. I would still be happy with how you came out, massive all over. Plus I believe you were the heaviest competitor on the day which is something!

I was personally very happy with how I came in at this show. I didn't retain the class 3 title, but to come second to a guy who is -2% body fat isn't so bad. It was the best condition I've presented so I'm happy :) more in my Journal

And mr stealth Genetic Freek made a mockery of his 'novice' tag. Sporting a ripped 100kg on stage he didn't look like a first timer, more a seasoned vet. Congrats on taking 2nd bro.

Lots learned from this show mate - it was very humbling just getting up there with you guys. 107kg at weigh in ..... 105kg today after refeeding ... may have been 103 on stage by the time we got called.

You are quality bro - still so young - still much to fill out - your journey is just begining. It would be interesting to do a comparison based on weight classes and see how the classes would be split. You are amazing - great to see your brother getting recognition too mate - Im sure theres a bit of banter being had.

GFreak wtf 100kg novice ... what a way to make your dbut.

Well, you guys are all being very PC, aren't you?! Let me share a few of my thoughts, then. :D

I'm not going to cover the individual competitors, since you've done that already. But across the board the calibre of contestants was amazingly high. This was without a doubt the highest-quality Nationals I've ever seen - of any organisation. That's a pretty big call, but I think it's justified. Very, VERY impressive!

Now, a few suggestions for NABBA-WFF...

Tell us what the classes mean! I said the same thing last year, so rather than retype, I'm just going to quote myself:

I'd also like to see the MC or head judge give the audience more information about the classes. This goes for all organisations, but particularly NABBA-WFF, which just numbers its classes. To announce "Mens Physique Class 4" tells me nothing about the difference between it and classes 1, 2, and 3. You might as well just say, "And here's yet another class of Mens Physique".

Rereading last year's report reminded me that they had a few music glitches back then. This year, I think it was perfect. I certainly didn't notice any issues.

Didn't stay after NABBA men's classes had already been sitting for 7hrs! One show format has its drawback for the audience there's no way I have sat any longer.

You, and most of the audience. Here's a shot I took by the time the NABBA ladies got on at the end...

post-2-14166824964375_thumb.jpg

Now, I really like the one-show format. I hate the fact that the two-show format forces you to either miss half the action, or pay twice. I don't feel like friends and family in the audience ever really get an understanding of bodybuilding when they only see one half of a show.

However, as hard as competing is, I can tell you that sitting in the audience for 10 hours is nearly as tough! Clearly, most people just don't bother. That's a real shame for the ladies, who had no-one left to watch them.

The show itself ran pretty damn smoothly, and I don't think there was much that could be done to speed it up. It's just a result of the number of competitors.

What should be done is rearrange the order of the classes. Intersperse the less popular classes (that seems to be you, sorry, ladies!) with the popular ones.

Have the WFF overalls held at the end of the WFF section, rather than making them wait another 8 hours until the NABBA section had finished too.

Which brings me to the seating. Allocated seating doesn't work in an event where the audience comes and goes. It prevents people from sitting as close as they could, which means they don't get a good a view, and all the competitors see is an empty auditorium. Much better to allow people to sit where they like. (And in fact, many people did that anyway, which caused its own complications when the "rightful owners" turned up!)

The other benefit to this is that you could more tickets. Having suggested this point to the NABBA-WFF president already, I know this has a few fishhooks that need sorting first, but I'm sure there must be a solution. Around the time I took the above photo, people were being turned away at the door because all the seats had been sold. Surely there's got to be a better way?!

Now, in case I'm misunderstood to be overly negative here, I'm going to repeat myself... The show was amazing, and the organisation mostly very smooth. Good stuff, NABBA-WFF.

Finally, Tony Ligaliga. As he come on stage, I told my mate he was about to see some amazing posing. Well, the man did not disappoint! If you haven't already seen it, check out the video on Muscle Imaging:

Tony, you are a legend.

Yup the one show format.

isn't it meant to be in a venue where you can come and go?

This might have been the mistake there.

Best condition in the NZ?

Maybe its because

a. I don't have to qualify

b. Show up for one show easy stuff that.

c. One cost event

My money is on those competitors who show up consistently and entertain people more than just the oncer and then disappear for one to two years with the bullshit I've got to get bigger lmfao that's why there are two male classes so you can move in and out of each to make gains.

WFF and NABBA are two different organisations may be that is the confusion

NABBA Class 1 through to 4 refer to heights

That's a good point raised with Mc or the head judge explaining to the crowd the meaning of class 1 or class 2 etc like when I went to the Pan Pacific show when class 1 etc came on I was bit confused by that or :-s .Compare to the three NABBA shows that I have been to where the MC or the head judge says which class will be on ie Athletic or figure etc that made things a lot more easy for me to understand.
