getting stregnth back post comp

Recommended Posts

how long is it meant to take before your stregnth recovers from a cut for a show? its been ages now (aug 28th was when i competed) and my stregnth has slowly come back. I am now back on track apart from my legs!! my squat is like 20- 25kg down from what it was before i started cutting. is this normal??

It can be mate, especially if you are lighter now than when you started dieting and were lifting 20-25kg's heavier.

Most competitors will lose some strength whilst dieting and it can take awhile to get back as, along with fat loss, SOME muscle is lost in the process for most. This is usually lessened in those who are on anabolic support and heightened in naturals.

Same thing happens to me every comp mate, you might go from squatting 3 plates for working sets and then post comp may struggle with 2 1/2 for decent sets as you have lost muscle tissue from everywhere including your Glutes/Hams/Quads,Spinal Erectors etc. Also your total body weight will probably still be way lighter than when you were at your strongest.

Compound lifts like squats tend to show up the biggest loses. I find my squat and pressing lifts drop the most. My back and limb strength tends to not drop as much.

As youre weight comes back up, the lifts will to mate. Bodybuilding is almost the inverse of powerlifting in a way in that for powerlifter, they get stronger closer to a comp and the bodybuilder looking to get leaner and more muscular USUALLY gets a little weaker.

bro im only like 5 kilo lighter than i was at the peak of my bulk with a lot better conditioning..i had a very good rebound. all my lifts are equal or beyond my last bulk except for my squat which is down about 20kg..so annoying but at the same time dont really care if you know what i mean..aslong as i can train hard thats all i care about. just thought it was weird that its JUST my legs that havnt regained stregnth..given their my best body part.

mm perhaps i lost a bit of mass in my legs with all the cardio i was doing?????
