Nutritional Help - Lower Cholesterol

Recommended Posts

Evening all,

Background

2 years ago before I started gym I was 118kg of fat, weak, drunk most weekends and ate whatever, now days I'm 104kg, hit gym 5 times a week, eat alot better and drink stuff all (twice this year).

Anyways last night I went to see my doctor about some blood tests I recently done as part of a checkup. Turns out my Cholesterol is higher now than it was 2 years ago and I have no idea why...

Thats where you people come in :D

Nutrition

Over the past 2 months or so, my average days nutrition consists of...

6am - Up and Go Vibe (to get me to work)

8am - 1 cup oats mixed with 1 teaspoon of honey and a handful of sultanas. 1 black coffee with one sugar.

10am - 1 Inner Armour Superquad protein shake with 400ml water, 1 snack log bar and 2 pieces of fruit

12pm - 300g of chicken breast cooked in 1 teaspoon of Extra Light Olive Oil with 1 tablespoon (approx) of ABC Sweet Soy Sauce for flavour, 1 half of avocado and 2 bits of Rye bread toasted.

3pm - 125g Cottage Cheese mixed with 1 small can of Tuna in Springwater. 1 cup green tea or Chai Tea.

5.30pm - Pre Workout with Water. (At the moment Musclepharm Assault) (Before Gym)

6.30pm - Horleys Crossfire Protein Shake with 400ml Water (After Gym)

7.30-8pm - Chicken (Or Steak), Eggs and 2 bits Rye Bread toasted.

After 8pm - Nothing at the mo

I DONT WANT TO BE HUGE!! I want to tone up the muscle I have now.

I also drink approx 1.0 - 1.5L of water per day while at work and approx 500ml while at gym. Im on the Pre Workout and Protein only in regards to supplements atm

Advice from NZBB

I really would like some advice on:

-What Im doing wrong nutrition wise that would be having an affect on my Cholesterol?

-Any changes to my Nutrition at all.. Take out this and replace with this. Double this... Half that.

-Is Cholesterol something that happens over a short or long period of time? Eg. would a couple of weekends with afew takeaways have an affect overall?

-Are there any supplements that would help me out further?

Any other info in regards to my Nutrition or Cholesterol would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Danny

No meds.

Doc just gave me a sheet with like the basics on it like..

Drop saturated fats/salts

Eat fish twice a week

Eat wholegrain not white bread.

All stuff I do now ay... thats why Im asking you guys/girls who know your stuff as I thought I did but apprently not.

He just said do that stuff and we will retest in 6 months time.

Ive lost close to 20kg and yet Im apparently unhealthy.

Fats have little effect on cholesterol. Basically you need to lower your carbs alot. Riccardo explains why well

The strange thing is I feel I dont really eat alot of carbs ay.

Whats Riccardo? Sorry if I sounds new to this but I thought I was doing OK but it seems Im not really. Kinda guts me abit.

Cheers for your help on this.

Just half your oats and sultanas and change the up and go for something else. Personally i'd spend money on a nutritionist with experience with indiduals like yourself. Save you seeing the.doc

Yeah I plan on going to a nutritionist and seeing what they recommend.

Im going to half my oats and sultanas and get rid of the up and go's! as ive had afew people saying thats the 1st thing that should go.

Congrats on the 20kg too

Cheers 8)

What advice has doc given, what meds you on?

Just in regards to this question earlier when I said no Meds...

I take a Centrum Ultra Mens Multi and 2 x 1000mg fish oil caps every day and every now and then have 2x 500mg Chewy Orange Vitamin C tabs.

These wouldnt matter tho correct?

Cheers

Danny
